Final chapter to the Trip Report
Our list – to add to the many others – of things we most liked about the BVI’s.
First let me say that our family is not really into the bar hopping social scene. I can see how people who are, can really get into all the options and opportunities in the BVIs to enjoy the many beach bars and restaurants etc. We also eat aboard a lot – we love to cook and we eat really well for about 25% of what a restaurant meal would cost. We love the tropics, boating, warm water, beaches and snorkeling. My wife is an avid wild flower enthusiast so we also spend time hunting down blooms for her to photograph.
All that said - here goes my top 10 list in no particular order:
1. Cheeseburgers at Stanley’s Welcome Bar, Cane Garden Bay. Everything about this experience was great – Cooked to perfection, fabulous fries and friendly prompt service overlooking a beautiful beach and bay. What more could you ask for?
2. White Bay, JVD. We pretty much decided this was the nicest beach we visited. More low key which we liked but plenty to keep you occupied if you want – and that sand!
3. Dinner at Sandcastle Resort – Another 10 – The meal was great and the price reasonable ($32.00 per person for four courses). The candlelight atmosphere, intimate seating – just a quiet, relaxing evening out.
4. Lee Bay – After busy anchorages at CGB, Great Harbor JVD, and White Bay JVD we were ready for a nice quiet spot. With only one other boat there, Lee Bay fit the bill to a perfection.
5. Marina Cay – hard to say why exactly but we really enjoyed our visit to the pretty and well maintained little Island. We ate lunch, got our laundry done, wandered a bit and just had a very nice time there.
6. Trellis Bay Full Moon Party – nice family oriented entertainment – got to meet a lot of people and had a good time. Outside of this we didn’t particularly like Trellis Bay itself – a little too much going on with the airport and all for our liking and not a great beach.
7. Cooper Island – Manchioneel Bay – We loved everything about this picturesque spot. The beach isn’t great for swimming (lots of sea grass in close) but afforded lots of shade. The snorkeling around the Rock was very nice and accessible.
8. The Baths – for all the obvious reasons and it wasn’t very busy at all when we were there.
9. The Indians – a very impressive snorkel site. The moorings make it easy.
10. The Sailing – with the steady winds, easy sight lines and the beauty of the surroundings it is easy to understand why the BVI’s is such a great destination. We enjoyed some really great sailing days and even the beats into some pretty strong winds weren’t tiresome because everything is so close.
And a big closing bonus goes to the people in the BVI’s. We really enjoyed everyone we met and found the inhabitants (be they born or arrived) to be friendly, efficient and wonderfully gracious.
Yours aye,
Hakmat
