Hi everyone –
Just returned from our first charter in the BVI’s and wanted to post up a quick report. My wife and I and our two girls ages 12 and 15. We went for two weeks – which gave us a real chance to explore and also relax. This is how our route ended up:
Sat. Arrive mid afternoon and check in at Road Town, provision etc and wait while the charter co. fixed a problem with the fresh water system. Spent the night at the marina – very hot and uncomfortable.
Sun and Mon – After a short shake down sail to Cane Garden Bay we start to really relax, anchored. Had cocktails with Susan Craig and her crew from Tennessee – thanks Sue!
Tues – Sandy Cay in the morning then Great Harbor JVD, anchor (We wanted to stay in White Bay but no moorings available and no room to anchor.) Picked up some provisions at Rudy’s.
Weds – moved over to White Bay early and moored – a beach day and then our first painkillers at the Soggy Dollar and an incredible dinner at Sandcastle Resort.
Thurs – Beat up to Lee Bay in 30+knots of wind and 6 ft seas, anchor at Lee Bay with one other boat. We skipped Sandy Spit – way too many boats and people there.
Fri – Monkey Point in the AM then over to Marina Cay, moored.
Sat – moved over to Trellis Bay for the full moon party – dozens of turtles in the bay, moored. Major reprovisioning back in RT by taxi and still saved a bundle.
Sun – Beat up to Gorda Sound – very windy again – tried to stop at the Dogs but almost all the moorings are missing and we didn’t want to anchor. Lunch at Vixen Point then moored at Saba Rock for the night.
Mon – moved over to Leverick Bay Resort – moored and took on water – took a taxi over to the Baths which was a really great idea – got to see the island views, relaxing lunch etc. Used the pool at Lev. Bay during happy hour which made the girls happy.
Tues – a relaxing run/reach down to Cooper Island Beach Club – picked up a mooring – there are now at least 35 moorings in the bay there not the “several” the cruising guide mentions.
Weds – Liked Cooper Island so much stayed another day – Snorkeled at Cistern Point.
Thurs – another relaxing sail down to the Bight, Norman Island – stopped and snorkeled at the Indians on the way. Picked up a mooring in front of Pirate’s – the Bight was very crowed that night with at least 12 “camp” boats coming in.
Fri – snorkeled the Caves early and then moved to the opposite point and p/u a day mooring for lunch and another snorkel. Moored closer to the Willy T – but not too close – and went in for a bit of the evening with the girls – it was very tame by all accounts.
Sat – a very fast beam reach over to RT to turn in the boat at noon time – taxi to airport check in and lunch at the CyberCafe before boarding.
A great, great trip - More impressions and details in another post.
