On Thursday afternoon for the first time this trip, we saw seaweed in the water here. Friday morning was the first time they even had to rake, but it wasn't too bad here.

The skies were pretty grey on Friday morning, as they were most of the trip, because of the Sahara dust. We had ONE day that there were a few showers during the day, and a couple of over night showers, but unfortunately for the island, it continued a very dry spell for the island.

For breakfast, we enjoyed a ham and cheese omelette, accompanied by leftover fruit and fried potatoes from Reveil Matin.

YUM!

Friday was once again a very laid back day, as I worked on book #5

[Linked Image]

and Eric hung out, watched the wind and the waves and the internet. I got a really trivial call from the gal who is watching our office and dispatched that in short order. The maid brought back our clothes which we had sent out to launder. They do a really wonderful job and it comes back either 24 or 48 hours later, cleaned, pressed and so neatly folded! A large basket of clothes was $15 including tip. Well worth it! Just give it to the maid or drop by the housekeeping shack and they take care of it.

As it came time for lunch, we enjoyed grilled chicken and POTATO SALAD grin

[Linked Image]

and since he was so tired from doing nothing, Eric took a long nap Friday afternoon. It is REALLY tiring doing nothing!! I continued work on my book and we eventually took a shower and headed out to Sublime.

The food at Sublime was pretty darn good. Not NECESSARILY sublime, but pretty darn good. For some reason I was feeling ornery, so I asked the server for GEBE water, which she tried to dissuade me from getting, but did give it to us. We started off with a goat cheese salad, which unlike the one we had at Tropicana the other day, was EXCELLENT. It had some sweetness to it, as well as some candied walnuts and was quite enjoyable.

[Linked Image]

Eric and I both ended up with steak. He had the ribeye and I the filet.

[Linked Image]

Both were very well cooked and enjoyable. I could not finish mine and Eric barely managed to finish his, which was huge, maybe 12 to 16 ounces? Due to not finishing my steak, we didn't order a dessert, although I would have liked to.

We asked for a table outside and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting watching the street and enjoying the breezes

[Linked Image]

only occasionally interrupted by a LOUD car stereo. It could get really hot out there if there was no breeze, but the night was really lovely.

I will go on a rant here and say that I don't know if I want to go back to Sublime. I literally HATED the red lighting. It was impossible to see properly what you were eating and to take a proper picture of it. I told the server the same thing, and she didn't say if they had had similar complaints or not, but I cannot imagine that they have not had similar complaints. They brought out some bread and some tapanade, and it literally looked BLACK in the light and I was afraid to try it. It actually was fine, but the colors were just so off-putting. She said that they were going to, at some point, put the bar outside. I'm not sure how that addressed my issue of the lighting, unless they plan on putting white lighting inside.

After, we went to Hollywood Casino, which is the first time this trip we have been anywhere inside without a mask. It was pretty busy there. They have moved things around, so that the bar is on the right hand side now and the bathrooms were relocated. This is the first time we had been to a casino since the pandemic and it was very nice not to have to deal with cigarette smoke. We left after a couple of hours, down some, but not a huge amount. Overall, a very nice evening.

I have to say the red light only bothered us when I saw our pictures.

Our dinners were excellent.

Funny story, our waitress took our order, and then we never saw her again. With the help of other employees
we were able to get everything we needed, by flagging them down.

At the end of the meal, she told us that she was eating dinner the same time we were.

It was a nice evening and good food, so we just laughed it off. I don't think we gave a huge tip---really don't remember.

Terri--The light REALLY bothered me the whole meal. The salad was quite good, but did not LOOK good to me. I really couldn't tell what was on it, until I literally ate it. Regarding the tip, they added a 15% auto tip. Our server asked if we wanted to add anything extra and we said "No". I really had no complaints about her service, but when they add 15% automatically, that's what I leave.

We feel the same way. By the way it looks like you two put a good dent in that bowl of potato salad unless that was a second one. LOL

Not acceptable in my book for the prices they charge to begin with. Better restaurants should hire better more attentive high caliber servers. If your original server was going to be having dinner she never should have started on your table.

Yes, we almost finished the potato salad.

Carol,

You know well, we really love Sublime - the setting, the servers and most of all, the various food offerings we’ve tried. Somehow I can’t seem to get beyond their lobster tails but John has really enjoyed both the steaks and their rack of lamb. In fact, re the lamb, I have it on pretty good island authority, Sublime has some of the BEST rack of lamb on the island.

I don’t get the ‘red’ thing you and others have spoken about - all but once we have eaten outside on the balcony and in honesty, I’ve never noticed or experienced it but whatever. To each his own…… I’m just glad you tried it.

Any new status OB Cheri’s?

Respectfully,

pat

pat--I would have tried the lamb there, but I had had lamb at least two meals out, plus grilled some at "home". Perhaps the red light varies based on where you are seated, but it really bothered me.

There didn't appear to be anything going on at the former Cherie's location, although there were several structures that have been started.

I keep meaning to take pictures, but it looks like two or three structures are going up in the former Cheri's area. If I can get myself in gear, I may go to Moulin Fou tonight and will try to remember to take a photo.

I ate at Sublime last night and didn't notice the red at all. I had two servers who were extremely attentive throughout the evening: Lela, who was lovely, and an equally friendly gentleman whose name I didn't get. Everything was fabulous except for the reason I went: duck. It was tough. I am probably going again next week and will give the lamb a try but overall, for me, it was a good experience.

Linda--The red may be a function of particular tables? Did you sit outside or in?

Outside but along the side, not the street.

OK, perhaps that was the difference.

I used the flash on my iPhone and got good photos and video was even better. Some pics from our first visit were red. I have a light box which also helps or ask Eric to use the flashlight on his phone. I’m a food blogger so I get needing good light for photo ops. I really like the atmosphere and food has been really great so we’ll be back.

Linda,

First of all, sorry the duck was a disappointment. Not a favorite of ours under any circumstances but still wishing it had been to your liking.

We ate outside for all but one of our visits and the past few trips Lela (the Lovely Lela…) was our server each time. Never noticed any red but I’m not into taking (food) photos or any photos for that matter, so perhaps we just missed the red. We usually try to sit with a view of the street and if really lucky, across from The Hole in the Wall where we can enjoy the best of both worlds.

When we were there in April there was lots of daytime activity at Cheri’s but not enough to give us a hint as to what they were doing. Lots of rumors, too, but nothing to take to the bank.

Enjoy your Moulin Fou dinner - it’s another place we enjoy as well.

Respectfully,

pat

Louise--It really affects my enjoyment of the food, when it's not the right color also. I'm not sure if we will go back, but maybe I will ask them to re-seat me, if the light is really red.

Pat--this trip we were immediately across from the Hole in the Wall and really noticed the red once the tapanade was delivered.
