Just got home from the BVI. Some friends wanted to do a charter and found that I was a certified Moorings Capt. No matter that it had been 8 years since I had done it. Also, with 8 people, we needed a big boat. I had never done a 50' boat before. The Moorings, in their infinite wisdom, had no problem with it. It worked out ok but I was a little uptight. My wife was the only one in the group that had been in the BVI before or had any experience with bareboating. One other couple had some sailing time but not in boats this size.

As we only had 6 nights on the boat, the itinerary was limited. The 1st day we planned to sail all the way to Leverick. Ambitious, I know, but it made the rest of the week work. The other thing was that it meant docking the beast on the 1st day. I was nervous about that. Kudos to Nick and his dock guys, they made me look like a pro.

Nick arraigned a rental the next day for the Baths and touring VG. The rest of the trip was straightforward. Anegada, 2 nights in JVD and the final night at the Bight on Norman.

The only negative was that our dingy disappeared the last night. The lady who checked us out at the Moorings said that we were the 3rd case in the previous few weeks. As my wife and I were staying a few extra days, I spent the time to file a police report (talk about island time). Reading posts here, I was surprised to have a problem on an out island. Be forewarned.

All in all, we had a great trip and, now that I have scraped off some of the rust, I'm ready to do it again. Would like to have more time though.
