Since it looks as though I won't get to a final trip report from my June trip, this is a thread about a Foodporn night I attended in late June. "Foodporn Group of SXM" is a Facebook group and is co-led by two locals who choose the semi-monthly locations; one is upscale, and the other is more casual. The group is on hiatus during the summer. Locations are announced on Facebook; you sign up there, first come, first served.

The June event I attended was held at Le Carre Vert in the Centr'hotel on rue General de Gaulle in downtown Marigot. I had never even been on that street before, much less visited the hotel! The place was discovered by a local on one of his morning walks, resulting in its being chosen for a Food Porn night. What was so unusual about the venue was how lovely the hotel's atrium is; the bar and some of the restaurant are in the atrium. There were private rooms in back where the Foodporn group was located. The atrium is very "un-SXM-like" but is beautiful and serene.

For a group our size, a limited menu was offered. As I recall, you could choose one each of three appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The food was good, but not outstanding. I think the food might be better in a smaller setting when they aren't trying to serve so many people. The local who discovered the place told me they have a breakfast buffet for a ridiculously low price; I wanted to go back to give that a try but never made it. Buffet and other restaurant hours are available at this link.

It's a lovely little oasis in the center of Marigot.

Sounds interesting. Might have to look into this.

Thanks for a report about someplace I had not heard of before.

Linda,

You never cease to amaze me in the things you do, the places you find and the experiences you derive from our mutually loved island.

Respectfully,

pat
