I was last in San Pedro (Ambergris Cay) in 2005, so I do not know what it is like now. I stayed at the Corona Del Mar (a short walk south from San Pedro), and had a wonderful time. The owner (Woody) had died the year before and his wife was trying to sell the place so it must have new ownership by now. The staff was really friendly, like everywhere else in Belize. Ambergris Cay is a relaxing place to visit. Not many beaches, but we swam from the pier in a roped off area. It is a short boat ride to the reef for excellent snorkeling. Lots of low priced restaurants. You can ride a bike us North to the resorts up there, or ride south to the lake with alligators or crocodiles, I do not remember which, but the local kids coaxed the crocs out of the water with chicken on a rope. The primary form of transportation was golf carts.
