Got a notification last evening that our flights for June have changed. AA has for a while had two flights from Miami per day, leaving about 10 AM and 12:30 PM, and of course two flights on the return, 2:30 PM and about 4:15. We have a 3.5 hour drive to Miami, so we prefer the later flight from Miami. Would have preferred the earlier flight home, but they were charging close to $100 PP more for the earlier flight, so we booked the later one. Who knows why airlines do what they do, but they have cancelled the later flights so the only flight from Miami for next June is the one leaving at 10 AM. That seems like it would be too early for most people who are connecting. I will be happy to get back home earlier, but going to be cussing AA when we are getting up at 2:30 AM. to leave.

Check your flights!

Thanks for the info Carol. We booked with AA in June 2021 and the constant changes were ridiculous. I haven't booked my flight for June 2023 as of yet due to the airlines constantly changing their flights. Hopefully they get their act together in 2023. smile

It's very unusual for them to change flights from Miami, so I was very surprised to see this one. We have been taking the Miami flights nonstop to SXM for a long time, probably at least 10 years and, other than changes of a few minutes, this is the first schedule change I recall.

Newly retired so we can now fly on something other than a Saturday and so glad we can. What a price difference on Jet Blue for next July from flying on a Saturday vs a Monday. Saturdays were always higher but double the price for a Saturday is a bit much. Another reason to be grateful we retired!!

crsxm--I assume you're flying from somewhere in the NE, as I don't think Jet Blue has reinstated any flights from Ft. Lauderdale?

Yes Carol -- I think we will try and fly from JFK. We have a lot of "logistics" to work through now that we live with my folks. My mom would love to come again to St. Maarten but it's a no-go for my dad. Maybe I'll convince him to stay with my brother and we'll take her to paradise!

we head down in a couple of weeks and the changes we expect to happen every year already happened, our departure out of houston got moved up an hour...good thing as this gives us more time in MIA to get our cuban sandwiches at La Carreta and spend some time in the AA lounge

for our return in january, we now leave SXM an hour+ earlier, again giving us more lounge time in MIA toast

I kept getting emails about flight time changes. It was a bit nerve wracking but I got to St. Maarten, so that's what really counts! LOL!

Yeah, changing the time slightly isn't a big deal. I think in my case, we could have actually cancelled because of the time change, but I didn't want to.

We tend to book early and just accept there is the possibility of many changes between booking and flying times. We usually find the better pricing to be early on and more options to book according to our personal preferences and schedules. And should the changes occur and not be what we consider doable, we cancel and rebook something that is more to our liking. Not a big deal as long as we check the reservations periodically.

Respectfully,

pat

Pat--agreed, we very much try to book early. With us, booking nonstops from Miami, changes are very few and far between.

We book as early as possible and not just accept the changes, we expect changes. From Portland Oregon you are pretty much guaranteed changes but once we have our big seats we always seem to work out as good or even a better routing as the changes happen.

I prefer the Isle seat

Same here out of SEATAC. We book our tickets for the Big seats with AA as soon as they come online expecting changes.

Mary - As several others have said, best to book early and expect changes. I have had my reservations for June 2023 since they became available and expect numerous changes.

What do you think Linda, flight delay to Miami so only 55 minutes for connection to DFW but all carry on? Should there be a betting pool? Row 2

Yikes! While I made it in about 50 minutes with luggage, I had wheelchair assistance. Pretty sure I couldn't have walked it all on my own in that timeframe. GOOD LUCK!!!

We made it, exited the airport after customs and re entered through the normal gates. About 200 degrees after the hustle and Clear certainly helped. Whew

Thanks Linda. I do normally book my flights as soon as possible but didn't this time. I'll be booking my flights come January.

Just got a change notice on my return flight from SXM in April. I thought it was a time change, which it was, but it was also returning me to Hartford instead of Albany NY. That was a first for me! I'll call them after the Christmas commotion has calmed down.

Yikes!! Returning you to a different place than you left from? Or, changed both ways? Regardless, if you need to, you can cancel and get your money back. I would agree to wait until after the holidays, but definitely call them and get it fixed somehow. They don't want to give you your money back, so be prepared with options, in terms of days, etc.

And check Delata as well and they instituted some changes for my March return.
