We are land based in Virgin Gorda and hosting big groups of friends. We have two days with no guests and were considering ferrying to Road Town for grocery and booze shopping to restock for guests arriving Sunday. Maybe hit the new Steakation butchery. I have never spent time in Road Town and just curious if we might have better selection ? Has anyone tried that Steakation?

You will 100% have a better selection. Steakation has great quality, but is expensive.

If you are doing a big shop I would personally recommend taking your rental car from Virgin Gorda on the car barge (check with the company to make sure they allow this). I have found it much easier to load the car up and drive it straight back rather than ferry to Tortola, shop, unload all the bags from the car, load them onto the ferry, then unload them from the ferry and back into your car on VG.

If you are up for it I would recommend going to Rite Way, Bobby's, French Deli and Steakation. With those 4 stops you should be able to find good quality most everything you need.

We shopped at steakcation last year before catching the ferry to V.G.
Will do it again this year. Everything we bought was delicious.

Did Steakation and Riteway this morning. We're having trouble unloading our key limes, so dropped some at the French Deli and got a cadeau in exchange! Of course we're very good customers there, but it was still nice. We also like Paradise Seafood in Pockwood Pond.

My friends need to step up their game... rofl Just kidding, I have some really stellar friends especially from this board!

I have not used Steakation yet but HIllsideview here has and can vouch for their awesomeness. I get the sense it's a get what you pay for experience from the reviews I have seen.

Steakation is wonderful. I went there on my last trip and was really struck by how nice the owners were in helping me out; I was going to Tortola from VG in order to have lunch with my attorney and her husband, and had called in my order the night before. I ended up having to change it the next morning, and they were really nice about it. I brought my own cooler bag and left it with them for pick up a few hours later after I finished lunch, but they will put anything onto the ferry for you - and the cost is minimal compared to the convenience of not having to go there just to shop. I actually saw a young man there with a wagon that is apparently used solely for him to take deliveries from the shop to the various ferries. Highly recommended for the quality of the goods, and the people who own it.

I agree - Steakation is wonderful. We placed a small order for delivery this trip and the owners were kind and helpful - the meats and sausages were fantastic. We will definitely use them on future trips.
