My family will be taking a ferry from Tortola to CA on April 10. We fly out of STT at 2:35pm on Delta. Two questions:

1) I have been reading this forum and have seen some reports that STT cuts off baggage check at 90 minutes before. When I called, Delta told me 60 minutes. Has anyone had any experience with this flying Delta.

2) There are two ferry options: One at 10:00am with Native Sons and one at 11:30 with Smith's. I have never taken the ferry from Tortola to CA, and I have no clue what the customs process is like on the return. Any advice is appreciated.

I would never cut it closer than 90minutes - and I am a Delta traveler with significant status.

The 11:30 is cutting it way too close. It will likely take at least 30 minutes to get through customs and retrieve your bags in CA (minimum). That would put you into the airport an hour before your flight and it is Easter Monday - peak travel period. Even the 10am is pushing it IMHO.

As MIDiver posted the 11:30 is risky. You will likely leave at 11:45 and arrive at 12:45. 30 minutes to clear customs and get a cab. You will be at the airport around 1:30. Take the 10am.

Personally I'd take the first boat out 7.30ish>I have witnessed too much panic from folks cutting it fine..not a good way to end a relaxing vacation.Said it before..get a cab to the Emerald Beach if you are really early and have a nice breakfast right by the beach and you are less that a mile from the terminal

Sounds like the same flight we take all the time (Delta to JFK?). We are always on the 7:30 out of Tortola. Agree with Manpot-it's just so much better to not be stressed. Plus, customs that early is usually a breeze. Our last trip we made it through in less than 15 minutes. You can leave your bags at the taxi stand, walk into town and have a nice breakfast (Glady's is many peoples favorite), do some shopping and make your way to the airport with plenty of time.
The 10AM becomes your backup plan should anything happen with the earlier ferry. It is always wise to have a plan B.
