Not many people there and food and service was very good. My wife had the clams vongole and I had the prawns in garlic white wine pasta. Both were excellent. Appetizer was calamari in garlic white wine. Very tasty. Prices were reasonable and 8.00 for a nice Merlot by the glass. They add a SC and then at the bottom they calculate 15, 18 or 20 percent on the total including the SC. Didn't fall for that BS but glad we went. Not a one and done and worth another time.
Excellent! Happy birthday! We are 53 years married this year as well in August! And we're still happy together! Enjoy your time there & hope weather cooperates!
Glad it worked out well for you, although that service charge thing was BS, for sure. That alone is enough to ensure that I won't be going there any time soon.

X2 The thought they they even attempted that B/S tells me all I need to know.
SXMBND--And the restaurant can't even blame it on the server. This is institutional attempted fraud, pre-printed on the bill.
Totally agree with you. It makes me feel that I am being ripped off in plain view and that doesn't sit well with me when I'm enjoying dinner. So it's usually one and done when I encounter this.
Interesting. I went with two very well known island ladies and they mentioned this to the owner/manager. He tried to backpedal on it that itโs just a suggestion and didnโt want to hear itโs double dipping. Especially since his percentages are based on the total PLUS the already added 15%!!!
So the SC is the tip? Different restaurants have different percentages?
To add on to what Carol posted, IF you ask about the SC, you open yourself to be being misled (that is putting it mildly) and being coerced into tipping another 15% or more. Nothing wrong with adding another 5% (totally your choice) on top of the SC IF you had service that you felt was worthy. IMHO, it is best not to ask about the SC.
Oh wow! I really had no idea. That is great advice. Thank you so much for that!!!
This pertains to the Dutch side only as on the French side, there is a different wage paid to servers and the "service charge" is already factored in the menu prices. Typically, one would leave a few dollars to 5% additional on the French side for good service, if so inclined.
Sadly, this topic gets confusing, is beaten to death on occasion and often leaves a sour taste in one's mouth, especially with some of the deceptive practices going on.
Running a restaurant on the Dutch side with so many customers from countries/nationalities that don't tip or reasonably tip I completely understand a place adding a gratuity regardless of what you call it as long as they make it clear that it is included and are not deceptive about it.
How it is shared is another issue but not my issue. T
