Is a electrical adapter needed for st. Martin was in Curaçao and the electric outlet ruined a few things. Thank you Dolores

French side, you need an adapter, yes. Many rental places will provide one, but the best policy is to bring one (or more) of your own, so you are prepared.

Understand the difference between a converter and an adapter. The current on the French side is 220, so any 110 appliances will need a converter. Most electronics now will operate on either 110 or 220. You can verify this my reading the small print on the power supply. To use these, you'll only need an adapter so that your US plug will fit into the French outlet. If your appliance will only operate on 110 current, you'll need both a converter and an adapter.

Converters are heavy cumbersome devices. An adapter is just a small plug and it does not transform the voltage.

I would check before. Some condos like mine have both voltages.

Never, ever, try running a device on the wrong voltage, it will either meltdown or catch fire !
