There's a bunch of corn/potato/grape vodka's that are supposed to be gluten-free. Including Smirnoff, which is pretty much available anywhere. Gluten-free vodka list I know Tico sells Ciroc and Smirnoff, at least, and both are gluten free.

If you are coming through St Thomas, Tito's is everywhere! A good potato vodka would also be gluten-free.

Can't believe that there is any vestige of grains left after it's made into vodka

Hi You might want to read this article in Scientific American from 2013 - because the joke’s on you : http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/vodka-be-marketed-as-gluten-free/. Gluten is a composite of gliadin and glutenin found in wheat, rye and barley. They are both insoluble in water. Gliadin is soluble in alcohol and glutenin only in dilute acid/alkali. The two parts of the composite cross link in the presence of water when you make dough. With proper distillation, there’s no way either of these products would survive distillation. That’s not to say that things that are added later can’t cause problems (e.g. flavored vodkas). I had the unpleasant experience of a adverse celiac reaction after drinking a can of grape soda!! Who knew? BTW, the fad has now spread to bottled water and fruit and vegetable juices - watch out for gluten in Poland Spring! Try potato vodka if you are still worried - it’s better than grain vodka by far. I’ve been consuming just about any distilled spirit you can think of for years and never had any problems. And I’m very much more sensitive to gluten that I was 31 years ago (when my celiac disease was confirmed by endoscopy. Peace Dugg & Chris Our VI pics are at http://picasaweb.google.com/papadugg/ - haven’t started on our ‘14 pics for Picasa. I buy it at Food Center, but I have seen it at Cost-U-Less. Great martini makings.

I've had Celiac for over a decade and follow a strict Gluten Free diet. ALL distilled spirits are Gluten Free after the distillation process no matter what the origin is. CaribSoul said: Hello all, Counting the days to VG vacation in January 2015! One traveler in our party maintains a strict gluten-free diet. Tito's vodka is certified as gluten-free. Can anyone tell me if Tito's is available on Virgin Gorda, and if so, where?
Many thanks! Shari

Glad to see that my initial thoughts weren't so off base - it was just based on my chemistry classes 50 years ago.

Who offered you treatment advice ? I merely mentioned that all distilled spirits are gluten free. The fact that Tito's puts it on their label is simply marketing to the GF food fad. The rum comment was a joke, I assume everyone understood that. CaribSoul said: Limin,
Thank you for that. However, I wasn't asking for treatment advice for my friend. I also was not asking about alternatives. It was a very simple and direct question.
Is Tito's vodka available on VG?
I believe it is up to my friend to make her own decisions regarding the optimal treatment of her condition.I trust you mean well, but frankly, the offering of unasked for alternatives is rather demeaning. It implies my friend lacks knowledge about her own condition, which is untrue. Not only is she treating her personal condition, but her educational degrees are in the science of nutrition.
I will choose to believe that you truly were intending to be helpful. I wish you a Happy New Year.

Hi Actually, many thanks to the folks who are joining the gluten-free parade (and not because they have celiac disease, wheat allergy or wheat sensitivity - where the latter two are still open to debate). As a result, an absolutely amazing variety of gluten-free foods are on the grocery shelves. OMG, I can have pizza, bagels, cookies of all kinds, macaroni and cheese! This is in stark contrast to the bad old days when there was only Ener-G bread (like eating cardboard) and their excellent flours so that you could make your own bread. As to vodka, you won’t catch any of my Russian friends drinking Stoly when there is Luksusowa (a fine Polish potato vodka) on the table. Great drunk neat - just sayin’. Peace Dugg & Chris Our VI pics are at http://picasaweb.google.com/papadugg/ - haven’t started on our ‘14 pics for Picasa. That's funny. I saw the thread title and was going to comment that Rosy's had it a couple weeks ago. Looks like you found it.
