I actually thought the TAXES on that flight are more than $89?? Regardless, I just hope there are no problems. If they are still doing only one flight per week, if there's a problem with your plane, you could be waiting a long time. And Spirit does NOT cooperate with any other airlines. So Spirit has to get you there and back. Same is true with Frontier.

DRich--I guess you're retired, as that would be a big problem for us.
OK, huh. I didn't remember that they ever had daily flights. I only remembered Saturday and maybe Sunday.

If your son "missed" the flight, that is not Spirit's problem and they would not be obligated to pay. Unless there is a mechanical issue, no airline is responsible for much at all.
