I'm trying to navigate the net access/ SIM card question, and gather that Flow seems to be better at service and function than Digicell. Is this so, and what is the best process for gaining an internet hotspot for the boat? Daily Wi-Fi rates from the charter company are $30-40/ per day. I'd like to get a pre-paid option for my existing phone, and stay under the usage limits. I use a Verizon-based company phone and think international travel is prohibited. Thinking we might want a "travel" phone, or a SIM plan, which is the way to go?

Just buy an unlocked smart phone with removable sim card and then buy a prepaid sim card when you get to wherever you travel to then you can use it or use Wi-Fi calling from your work phone through the travel phone.

Checking into this suggestion now. My company has restricted international calls, and the Flow website is not helpful. Do Flow's data plans include the device being a hotspot?

My T Mobile account works for me all over Europe and down in the BVI.It can be used as a HotSpot ( I believe but never used it for that) with calls costing 25 cents a minute.Works well for me..I have an I Phone..

AT&T has an "International Day Plan" that costs $10 per day and allows you to use the same data and voice plan that have in the US, including tethering. Verizon and other major US carriers have a similar plan.

Calls made using the international day plan are not international.

Be aware that AT&T now considers the USVI as international. That is a change from past practice. The international plan will work in STT.

Verizon's current "Unlimited Ultimate" plan includes an international plan that sounds great. I just updated our plans with Verizon from an old data-limited plan that we'd been on forever. We'd grown tired of monitoring our data usage every month, but had just been held back from making a change due to the nightmarish customer service experience that is dealing with Verizon or any major cell carrier or other utility for that matter. In any case, the upcoming trip was the impetus. Plan details below from the Verizon website. There doesn't seem to be any additional cost or charge for the international days.

High-speed international data, talk & text
Unlimited talk, text and data when traveling in 210+ countries and destinations. After 10 GB/mo of high-speed data, get unlimited 2G speeds.

Has anyone used Verizon in the islands recently? Any tips on where it works well or where it doesn't? TIA!
