We decided to go to the “new” Karakter today…. What a disappointment that was! The menu is literally a 1/4 of what it was before, prices are way too high, the bloody beer is $5! We were told that in order to have free chairs we need to spend at least $50 on food and drinks…. The place was half empty, they had probably 2 dozens chairs outside and 1/3 were empty… We decided to walk to the Mary Boon, got the chairs and a super friendly service. The food was great too and very reasonably priced. Last year we noticed a big change with Karakter but this year the change was really bad!

Disappointed to hear that. It was our favorite place to stop on our Simpson Bay walks. We will get there eventually on this trip, thanks for the fore warning.

Same here, we loved the place and the food there before. Very disappointing indeed!

That’s too bad to hear. They had their act in great shape a couple stunners ago with food, service and entertainment.

All the complaints I have heard are by people who did not stay and eat, yet all the people I have heard from that have, enjoyed it. $25 minimum spend per person seems pretty reasonable considering most places on island, can't think of a day at a beach anywhere on island we didn't hit that number.

Yes, plenty. The next door Mary’s Boon was fantastic as I already mentioned.

Ok IMO 99% of time you just can not beat Marys Boon for price , location , food portions , friendliness of the Staff etc. Yes been saying this for a long time in fear of it getting even more busy and me losing my spot on the beach. Just keep in mind these are very political and personal opinions which often have nothing to do with who is the best. Its more about business and friends and yes we have make friend with some of the Mary's Boon staff also. But we like it only because its GOOD. My husband and I like the new French owner of Karakter and his sister , they seem to be looking for the higher end French crowd and then they still have those RAVE party nights unfortunately. Same with Dinghy Bar down the beach. SO So and not near as appealing..the crowd is always at Marys which says a lot.. Yes the K.....it looks nice but IMO it ...BUT...is very expensive for just a beach bar. Service as never been great for the past years , food is just ok and a very limited menu and years and it just not nearly as nice of property as Marys Boon who By the way you have to be careful of saying to many nice things on this site. Lets see how long this last.
