Hi Everyone, We are staying in Orient Village and my wife is feeling like she’s developing a UTI. She’s had them and the symptoms are the same. We’re wondering what options we have on the island to get antibiotics. We’re thinking going to the St Martin Medical Center on Dutch side tomorrow but we’re wondering also if she could have a Rx filled if her doctor in the states called one in to a local pharmacy here on French side. Also, is there a medical facility on the French side you’d recommend as another option? Any recommendations would be appreciated smile

Pharmacies can make and fill prescriptions for some Drugs. Ask them. If you need a script, there is a doctor's office in Grand Case (between the airport road and the bridge) that can give a script. He's walk-in and charges 30 or 35 Euros. My wife used him to get a script. It's recommended to get there prior to opening so as to not have too long a wait.

There is an ER in Marigot, but, I believe, their starting charge is 300 Euros.

I would go ahead and go the the Medical Facility on the Dutch side. I think you'd have a hard time getting ahold of your state side doctor on a Saturday and then have him or her go through the hoops to send a prescription which could take days. You could also just go to a pharmacy on either side and see if they have something to give her if you know for sure it's a UTI.

No need to go to the ER. Go to a pharmacy, if they need script they will send you to a local dr. If you get script from your home Dr, they will fill it.

There is a pharmacy next to Super U on the way to Grand Case. I'd try there first.

My wife ran into the same issue a few trips ago, and called her OB/GYN back home. The Doc called in the required scripts to the pharmacy in Maho, and my wife had it in her hands about 10 minutes later. Was feeling better the same day. There's an urgent care across the courtyard from Maho Pharmacy, but they have very limited weekend hours. I tweaked my back carrying a lady up the stairs at Cupecoy after she'd taken a nasty fall and we both ended up there, and they did a great job patching us both up, pain meds needed, etc. We hope your wife finds a solution that works quickly.

Thanks so much everyone. We called a local pharmacy and a friend who is a physician tried to call in a Rx but they can’t take a call in Rx, only email Rx. Our friend is on a business trip and doesn’t have access to an email Rx. Sooo….there is a doc right behind this pharmacy that can write the script on Monday. Thankfully, my wife is feeling a bit better. We found cranberry juice and we’re praying for her. smile

Get some Pyridiam - Azo pills. It will make her feel better when she “goes” and stops always having to go!! They turn your urine orange. But does the job. Pharmacy’s will definitely have them.

My wife had a relapse the day after my last post, but it was brief and she felt better for the rest of the trip. This was good because if she had been feeling ill for our return flight connection in MIA it would have not been good. I have another thread asking for advice on that connection. You can read up on our experience there. Once we got home she had a pre schedule doctor appointment and it was confirmed she an an UTI, got meds and is feeling much better. Going to a specialist next week to figure out why these keep cropping up. Thanks again for the feedback.

I think the pharmacy will help you out. They will know
what you need. The pharmacist at Maho is very helpful.
The doctor at the clinic
only talked to me and prescribed
meds. I asked if he would look at my throat and wished I had asked him
to listen to my chest.

Dr. Nuyts in Hope Estates Village his # is 590 590 87 95 19.
It's a clinic and we would return if a medical issue arises but it could be busy.
I'm not positive but it may be 1st come 1st served.
Hope Estates is on the road from Orient to Grand Case very near the turn to Cul De Sac about 10 minutes from the Village in Orient.

I have a staghorn stone in one kidney which caused the kidney to atrophy. This led to a series of UTI infections. I have found that a daily capsule of cranberry powder prevents UTI infections. A substance in the cranberry coats the bacteria and it is excreted in urine. Been several years without a UTI.
