Trip insurance, including medical coverage, was mentioned in an earlier thread. We're considering getting the AAdvantage Executive World Elite MasterCard. It has a hefty annual fee, but includes membership in Admirals Club lounges, which would benefit us on domestic travel. We generally fly first class, so international travel gets us into the lounges, but domestic doesn't. The card also offers some type of insurance coverage, but details on that aren't available until after you're approved. So my question is, does anyone here have that card, and if so, can you share what the insurance coverage is? Thanks!

I have had this CC for quite a while it offers:
1. Worldwide Car rental insurance.
2. Trip Cancellation & Interruption Protection.
3. Trip Delay Protection.
4. Lost Baggage Protection.

You also get 100.00 for TSA precheck application fee

OK--so to be clear, NO medical coverage? And do you know if the car rental insurance is primary or secondary? We have held onto Eric's Diner's Club for years, because it provides PRIMARY car rental insurance.

Coverage is effective for purchases made on or after July 23, 2023.
You must have paid for the rental car with your Citi card and/or AAdvantage® miles. If the rental car company applied a discount or promotion of any kind, any remaining portion of the rental cost must be paid for with your Citi card and/or AAdvantage® miles.
In the United States, the coverage provided by the benefit is secondary, which means we’ll only cover the amount that’s not covered by any of your other insurance policies.
Outside the United States, the coverage provided by this benefit is primary, even if you have another insurance policy.

I would call them directly to get all those answers. I know the other AA CitiBank cards no longer carry rental car collision coverage.

Thanks to everyone for your comments, especially to Alltech for your first-hand experience. David was able to find detailed information on NerdWallet. As noted, there is no medical coverage, so we'll continue to purchase trip insurance for international trips. Otherwise, I think this card will serve us well for domestic travel, as we almost always fly American. Scuba, this card offers rental car coverage as secondary on domestic rentals, and primary on foreign ones.

No problem Gakaye I fly exclusively with AA and have PE status the card comes in handy for Lounge use. As a side note the main card holder is allowed 2 adult guest for lounge access family or not but if you have children that are under 18 you can have more than 2 guest. I also have my wife listed as an authorized user with her onw card and she is allowed 2 guest also. This comes in handy if we travel with another couple.

And secondary is fine for domestic as your US auto policy would kick in as primary. We have the Chase Reserve for several reasons but mostly as it’s also primary coverage outside the US.

Alltech, do I understand correctly that there is an additional annual fee to add an authorized user?

There isn't one on my Platinum card as my wife has a card of mine and I of hers. Might be different with an Admirals Club card involved. A direct call to them would be my recommendation to avoid any misunderstanding as their policy and benefits do change.

Yes GA there is but my wife can use admiral club even I am not flying with her which she does sometimes when she flies in to see me when I'm working out of town. I know that I pay less for it because I'm Executive platinum. But there is an extra charge. If you only travel together no need to add an authorized user just know that means that the card holder can only get a total of 2 additional people in AC so if you have 4 adults non family 1 is not getting in AC

Let’s bottom line this and maybe close the thread.

Your credit card may or may not have coverage for your rental car. Some coverages are only domestic (home). Some are international. Understand the difference between Primary and Secondary, and when your card provides each. Check with your provider, Figure it out.

No credit card insurance that I know of specifically includes coverage for local medical bills. Some Medicare Advantage plans might. Figure it out,

As to a medevac if you are relying on your credit card then they may fly you home, but you’re eventually going to pay big bucks. The SXM forum has a sponsor who you should look at. I use a different one, but as with any big decision, you should compare your options and use the best one for your personal situation. Figure it out, and expect to pay big bucks if you haven’t pre-bought a plan.

I have often both accepted/declined additional coverages. Many years ago I had the choice of paying 9 pounds ($16 at the time) for damage waiver overseas. Best $16 I ever paid.

But I’ve never needed to invoke insurance provided via various credit cards.

How easy is to call up and say “hey you’ll never guess what happened and I want to use my card included coverage”.

Interested in any actual experience for/against relying on such coverage.

Miss Kaye, maybe check out the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card. It is probably one of the most comprehensive benefits package included with a credit card. The annual fee is steep, at $550, but with an annual $300 travel credit and a full complement of benefits it might be worth considering.

*****************

Highlights

Earn 75,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $1,125 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Travel℠.

$300 Annual Travel Credit as reimbursement for travel purchases charged to your card each account anniversary year.

Earn 5x total points on flights and 10x total points on hotels and car rentals when you purchase travel through Chase Travel℠ immediately after the first $300 is spent on travel purchases annually. Earn 3x points on other travel and dining & 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases

1:1 point transfer to leading airline and hotel loyalty programs

Access to 1,300+ airport lounges worldwide after an easy, one-time enrollment in Priority Pass™ Select and up to $100 application fee credit every four years for Global Entry, NEXUS, or TSA PreCheck®

Count on Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance, Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver, Lost Luggage Insurance and more.

†****************
How does Chase Sapphire travel protection work
Certain benefits that may give you peace of mind when using your card for travel are available to Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Preferred® cardmembers:

Travel and Emergency Assistance Services: If you run into a problem away from home, call the Benefit Administrator for legal and medical referrals or other travel and emergency assistance. (You will be responsible for the cost of any goods or services obtained.)

Trip Delay Reimbursement: If your common carrier travel is delayed more than 12 hours (six hours for Sapphire Reserve) or requires an overnight stay, you and your family are covered for unreimbursed expenses, such as meals and lodging, up to $500 per ticket.

Trip Cancellation / Interruption Insurance: If your trip is canceled or cut short by sickness, severe weather and other covered situations, you can be reimbursed up to $10,000 per person and $20,000 per trip for your pre-paid, non-refundable travel expenses, including passenger fares, tours and hotels.
Baggage Delay Insurance: Reimburses you for essential purchases like toiletries and clothing for baggage delays over six hours by passenger carrier up to $100 a day for 5 days.

Lost Luggage Reimbursement: If you or an immediate family member check or carry-on luggage that is damaged or lost by the carrier, you're covered up to $3,000 per passenger.

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver: Decline the rental company's collision insurance and charge the entire rental cost to your card. For Sapphire Reserve cardmembers, coverage is primary and provides reimbursement up to $75,000 for theft and collision damage for rental cars in the U.S. and abroad. Sapphire Preferred Cardmembers can be reimbursed up to the actual cash value of the vehicle, but coverage excludes certain cars, such as high value and exotic vehicles.

Travel Accident Insurance: When you pay for your air, bus, train or cruise transportation with your card, you are eligible to receive accidental death or dismemberment coverage of up to $500,000 ($1,000,000 for Sapphire Reserve).

Additional Benefits covered with Chase Sapphire Reserve travel insurance
Certain travel reimbursement, cancellation protection and emergency services are available to Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardmembers on eligible travel booked with their credit card. Here’s some more information about the benefits offered with the card.

Emergency Evacuation and Transportation
If you or a member of your immediate family are injured or become sick during a trip far from home that results in an emergency evacuation, you can be covered for medical services and transportation up to $100,000.

Roadside Assistance
If you have a roadside emergency, you can call for a tow, jumpstart, tire change, locksmith or gas. You’re covered up to $50 per incident 4 times a year.

Emergency Medical and Dental Benefit
If you're 100 miles or more from home on a trip, you can be reimbursed up to $2,500 for medical expenses if you or your immediate family member become sick or injured.

Be Happy! Simply because you deserve to be. 😁

If anyone here has CHUBB as their home insurance they offer a policy called Passport 360. It’s under 500 a year and covers worldwide

I myself do not use the AAdvantage Executive World Elite MasterCard for its insurance coverage while it is nice to have not my main concern. I fly about 20 to 30 times' a year for work the main benefit of this card is lounge access for domestic flights in the USA. Because I travel in the US, Europe and Asia for work my company provides my medical coverage even if I on vacation of course I do pay for that. When you spend as much time in airports as I do lounge access is a must even if they are starting to get a little crowded. American Airlines has many CC just like some of the other types of CC that have been mentioned all have certain benefits get the one that suits your travel needs as I have more than 1 CC. My works also pays my annual fee for the executive card which was 550.00. but even if they didn't I would still use it because piece of mind and a tad less chaos in an airport goes a long way for me these days. I might also add all major airlines have this type of CC for lounge access since I fly American only because they give me more flight options and for personal travel we are very close to Charlotte which provides non stop options to more locations another thing I am willing to pay for.

Exactly! Even though we don't travel a lot, we want lounge access when we do. If we can skip buying trip insurance for domestic flights, that's an added bonus.

Will that card get you into the proposed lounge at PJIA if it ever gets done?

I know of two people who were requested to bid on that lounge. Both declined.

It may happen, and it may work. I will pay if I have to.

Bahston--wow, it may not happen?? I would be disappointed if it does not. Not wanting you to break confidences, but why did your friends refuse to bid on the lounge?

Sxm no lounge access is only for AA admirals clubs in USA if you fly business class for foreign flights to Europe or Asia you also get lounge access without CC unfortunately the Caribbean is not included. Also if you have top status you get lounge access even if flying in main cabin for foreign destinations.

I beg to differ as a business ticket to PJIA allows access to the AA lounge in the USA.

While this a little off topic since I started traveling for work 15yrs ago here are some the benefits I have learned about flying business class on foreign flights to Europe and Asia. AA has 2 types of lounges Admiral club which the CC is the only way to have access or by buying a daily pass this lounge is for domestic USA travel. The perks are free house alcohol and beer soda coffee etc. The have some selection of food and snacks all included and of course wifi once again Business class does not get you in AC in USA only CC. If you fly business class out of the US to Europe Asia South America etc. you can use the top AA lounge which is called the Flagship lounge unfortunately the Caribbean does not count. The Flagship lounge has serve yourself top shelve acholic beverages and much better selection of food actually nice dinners. The Flagships are only at Major hubs Dallas Chicago Miami JFK. Charlotte does not have one frown . Once you get your destination if there is not an American lounge you have access to partners lounge all of these top tier lounges have showers that are very nice so after flying 15 hrs to Hong Kong I can take a shower change clothes and get refreshed and have a nice drink and something to eat so if you have 4 hour layover like I usually do it makes it very nice to relax. Now here is something I learned last year about London Heathrow my wife and I were doing a cruise out of Dover and I had a Hotel in Town for a few days before cruise. We landed at 9am and cleared customs with bags by 10am and check in was at 4pm. Well LHR has a arrivals lounge once you clear customs so we went to it and took a shower and relaxed until 230pm (closes at 3pm) then had driver take us to Hotel. So while Business Class in expensive just make sure you are aware of all the extra things that go with it. Some of the really nice airlines even provide more perks but I am only up on what American offers. Anyway just what I have learned

SXM not if you are flying American and trying to get in Admiral Club in Charlotte must have CC maybe Flagship in another HUB . I don't now how much you fly and if you use AA or not but I do notice you like to disagree a lot
.

I am not a Member of the Admirals Club but when I fly to PJIA and connect through Dallas, MIA or CLT or any other airport with an Admirals Lounge with my First Class/Business ticket I have always been admitted to the AA Lounge. Same on my return flights.

Well good for you thanks for sharing learn something new everyday so since you have 1st or business class I suggest you use Flagship instead of Admiral club lounge much nicer.
I do find your access to CLT AC suspect as we just went to Cabo with another couple and I actually bought the tickets for all of us and the were all BC and they could not get in lounge and had to be our guest so my wife who is authorized user had to sign 1 of them in but then again you are special I guess. But just could depend on who is at Desk when you enter AC who knows

Interesting - I had no idea evac with the Chase Reserve if paid with that card!!!

As far as the lounge - in the past the Priority Pass card given through the Chase Reserve always got into the lounge at PJIA.

" but then again you are special I guess."
Not special at all they just let us in because of our destination and ticket class. Daughter just flew to PJIA via CLT out of PIA and was admitted with her FC ticket. I'll be doing the same this coming Saturday.

Caribbean was not included in the past, but has been for the past two years. You probably didn't realize that, as your AA card was your access vehicle. We did get Flagship when we flew FC to Ecuador a couple of years ago, and it's definitely better!

Hey Alltech63, SXMScubaman is right about lounge access for AA going to Caribbean. First and business class between the US and Caribbean is considered a qualifying international flight for Admirals Club access (it wouldn't be for flights operated by Alaska Airlines though). All you need to gain entry is your first or biz boarding pass and ID. This is the AA link for Admirals Club access which spells it out:

https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/clubs/admirals-club-access.jsp

Maybe you're thinking of Delta, because they do exclude Caribbean for Delta Sky Club access.

Same for me.

Mexico is not included in the freebie access; just Caribbean.
