Hi,

First time posting a trip report, but we’re relatively frequent visitors to the island. We (mom, dad and school-age kid) decided at the last minute to make a trip to our beloved island over the Memorial Day weekend. Thanks to airline miles, we were able to get direct flights on Delta a day before travel. The flight was bumpy but uneventful. We lucked out and made it through immigration in less than 10 minutes and quickly picked up our car from Hardy’s. I love that they bring your car to the airport - no shuttles - and their prices are very competitive. We are happy to be loyal customers.

This trip we’re staying at the Royal Palms, a first for us. I know some folks have issues with the noise from the restaurant across the street, but we have enjoyed listening to the nightly bands. Since we can’t go hang out at the bars (because young kid), it’s kind of cool to be able to experience the band from the comfort of our condo. They finish up around midnight, so not too bad for a night owl like me.

We’re not into fancy dining, so we enjoy many of the more budget-friendly options. Places we have enjoyed so far include Mark’s Place (love the curry chicken and ribs aren’t bad according to the hubby), Pollos Hermanos (good food with generous portions), and Avantika (Friday happy hour is a nice deal with half off apps and drinks).

As for beaches, we usually head to the French side. The beach at the Royal Palms is serviceable, but we found the water and sand to be better in front of the Buccaneer Beach Bar. Today we beached at Grand Case and the water was perfect - clear and calm - with a lovely view of Anguilla to boot.

Wow, you booked air the day before you left? I am amazed that your schedule would allow for that. Good for you!

Speaking of bars in that area, I guess Roxxy is closed by now? Anything going on there?

We need to try out Pollos Hermanos sometime, as I think we would like it.

We stayed at RP several times in the past, pre Irma. We really love the location because of how close is it to so many restaurants and being able to see the boats go through the bridge. The physical beach is kind of nice because of the shade palapas, but I have been told by several people that the water there is polluted from all the boats anchored out there. I do not go in the water there

Enjoy your stay! Would love to see some pictures, if you get the chance!

Gotta love the combination of flexible remote work and the end of the school year. It definitely makes spontaneous travel a possibility.

Roxy is all quiet. We haven’t seen any activity there, so I’m guessing it’s shut down.

I don’t know how to post pictures. Can I do it from my phone?

Yes you definitely figured it out, nice photos. The beach at Grand Case is my favorite as well.
