Hello we are considering our very first trip to BVI and know nothing about that area! I just found flights into EIS in late April and our main goal is ferrying to check out all the islands. Finding a rental walking distance to the ferry is definitely of interest, along with a full kitchen (although we need pointers on grocery shopping there smile any bvi info is more than we have right now smile We normally stay in SXM , another thought is a day trip from thereā€¦?

I have a site more focused on chartering, and don't have any land-based experience, but you might find this page useful to explore the various BVI islands and points of interest: BVI Islands

Ferrries run from Road Town and West End Tortola. I would not want to stay in the capital. I have a beachfront rental studio, fully equipped, on the north shore at the west end of the island. The whole Apple Bay area is nice and convenient. PM me if you want more details.A full supermarket is about 7 mins drive away, a smaller market about 4...I would plan on renting a car..

Don't bother making a day trip from St Martin because you won't have time to see the nicest bits of the BVI. Tortola has some nice beaches over on the north shore and I'm sure my friend Manpot would show you a good time for however long you had there, but, if you come to the BVI, you really need to get to the other islands as well. Whether you'll prefer it to St Martin/Sint Maarten depends on what you like there. I lived and worked in the BVI for a couple of years and had many vacations as well. I've also spent many months on the French side of St Martin and love Marigot and Grand Case, but, I avoid the Dutch side, nothing for me over there. Which you'll prefer only you can say but give the BVI a try, it's very different.

As Mal said, most of the ferries leave from Road Town, which is not a great place to stay. If it were ME, on Tortola, I would probably stay in Cane Garden Bay. It's a nice location, with lots of lodging and dining choices.

Guavaberry Spring Bay on Virgin Gorda would be my recommendation. They have one, two, and three bedroom cottages and villas available with maid service and you can walk to six different beaches. We've stayed there over 70 times since 1986!

We are also Virgin Gorda fans and love making that our home base. We ferry around from there and or take the car barge to Tortola. ( we stay a month and rent a vehicle )

Check out this site for tons of wonderful villa options.
