We have a Ferrell cat that comes by everyday at home too. Used to drink out of our pool but now we set out a water dish. Just recently we put cat kibble next to the water dish and it's very happy. Won't let us get near but that's ok as long as it's doing good.
I have a stray cat that comes and sits at my back door. It's a Maine Coon cat, bigger than dogs I've owned. I do put out water and kibble. It's very skittish, won't let me catch it. I've tried to find the owner (if there is one) through the residents' association. Don't know why people let pets out to roam in this country.
