Michael and I met two lovely ladies on our beach at Divi this morning. We quickly became friends and decided to have lunch together.
We had so much in common and asked them if they'd like a tour of the island. First we had lunch at Skipjack's where we could see the mega yachts. Took them over the new bridge. Through the lowlands and Cupecoy.
We toured Orient Beach and made a stop at Paradise View. Our new friends were "animal people" like us so they loved the idea of meeting Bernadine. Michael and I always buy the biggest bag of cat food we can find to bring to her.
What a lovely person she is. So many cats including one that looked like a flame point Siamese.

Bernadine was worried since high season has started but little money is coming in. She said that she faired well through the hurricane. So, if you are coming to the island, stop in and see Bernadine and help her take care of the cats. Your kindness will be repaid tenfold.

Can you provide info on how to be in contact with Bernadine?

Bernadine is in the same area as Paradise View. Just around the corner from Orient Beach. There are a bunch of vendor shacks, a creperie (Paradise View Cafe) and Bernadine selling Ma Dou Dou.

Our first trip to SXM we just happened to explore the lane running at an angle off the main highway and on that lane a few small shops, the remains of a restaurant destroyed by a previous hurricane (now rebuilt as a creperie) and Bernadine and her little rum shack. We too were impressed by her devotion to animals in need and the fact that she has devoted all her free time and any money she has to looking after and finding homes and vet care for strays. In biblical times Bernadine would have been a Sainte but in today's times she is a woman on a mission who badly needs help. We urge all of you to spread the word about Bernadine..patronize her business and donate to her cause of looking after neglected animals. At a time when man is senselessly butchering fellow man a lady like Bernadine, who sees the bigger picture needs to be helped and supported...by all of us...in any way we can.
Please...spread the word. We desperately need many more like Bernadine on this troubled planet.

I SO agree. She is a wonderful woman, and we make it a point to purchase all of our (considerable) ma Dou Dou from her, in addition to her wonderful spices. I also bring her cinnamon bush from my parents house which she loves. Breakfast at paradise view, followed by shopping with Bernadine equals the best way to spend a morning in SXM.

I bring her the biggest bag of cat food I can find at Grande Marche. My aunt, who came with us last year, is a vet. I intend to send Bernadine a "care package" from her this year as well.
I tried hard to get my husband to let me adopt the new kitten she had there but he said NO!

So I guess there is no way to donate to her cause via Paypal or whatever? For those who aren't going to be in St Martin it would be a viable option. (Happy to say that I WILL be in St Martin next month!)
