I just saw a post on “I Love SXM” FB of cul de sac ferry landing for ferry boats. The piers are solid sargassum weed so boats can’t run. The Stench must be off the charts. Pinel itself is fine but only karubani is open as yellow. Each is closed for vacation

I saw that post on Facebook. That video showed it all. A solid sheet of Sargassum stretching all across that bay. Going to take awhile to clean up. Especially on island time.

Just for kicks, just looked at D's webcam and Simpson Bay is clean as a whistle.

There was a very large island of Sargassum that came ashore on the east facing beaches. Someone posted a picture of that mass off shore a couple of days ago and looks like it finally reached shore. Would not want to stay close to those areas hit as that smell would be horrible and breathing the fumes unhealthy. I imagine the people that normally frequent those beaches will be hitting Mullet and other Simpson Bay beach bar locals. I know I would.

Is Orient affected also? We will be there in 5 weeks and 1 day. Hoping this clears up before then.

Hopefully you have rented a car regardless and you can head to other beaches if necessary.

We do have a car rental. I will be bummed if the Pinel ferry is closed. My son is really looking forward to going. Also, we scheduled parasailing at Orient.
