I submitted all my receipts for my 2 Doctor visits and 2 Labs when I had an issue in St Maarten and got my check yesterday. All they did was deduct 3 $15.00 copays. Glad I took the time to do the paperwork.

Yes, I find it pleasantly surprising when I have no issues with a claim while in the US.

You were luckier than I was. Medicare denied my claim, and my supplemental will pay 100% of Medicare approved claims, but nothing if Medicare didn't approve it. Cost me over $3,000 for my diverticulitis while on the island last year

Wow, not good. Did Medicare say why they wouldn't pay? Did you buy travel insurance?

Medicare doesn't cover anything outside the US. And for some reason, we didn't have travel insurance; not sure why. Won't make that mistake again!

I'm on Medicare and my Supplement through United Healthcare covered it.

Georgia-- Our Supplement covers 80% out of the country. IF Medicare would otherwise cover it. I don't know how they determine that Medicare would otherwise cover it, if it was in the country. We always buy travel insurance regardless.

I had to file with Medicare first, before my supplemental would even review the claim. Once Medicare declined it, the supplement wouldn't even consider it. I guess I should have pushed the issue, but with everything else going on in our lives at that time, it just wasn't worth the stress.

OK, I understand. As you said, you need to always buy travel insurance in future. I am most concerned about medical evac coverage.

I contacted my BCBS first, but they told me I couldn't file directly with them, that I had to file with Medicare first, and that Medicare would file with them for the unpaid portion. They did that, and both claims were denied.

Last February, I submitted a claim for my wife's two visits to see the doctor at the Maho clinic and for some prescription drugs. We received 100% back with no deductible. I even emailed the clinic from home and she sent me more additional information that was required for the claim.

You might had done better not submitting to Medicare at all, not calling BCBS and just mail in the claim forms. That's what I did.

You could be right; I called to find out how to file the claim, and that's the information they gave me. Whatever...it's done now.

Last year when i was rushed by ambulance to the medical center, had to pay like three grand to the hospital. when we got back was told to put through a claim on medicare......but they won't pay it. BUT....once denied was told to submit it to my secondary, which is United American. They covered 80 percent ....which i was thrilled with.

We have an annual plan with GeoBlue. I had an issue this past March and ended up with a couple of doctor visits some meds and a CT scan while on the island. I sent the receipts to GeoBlue when I got home and within a couple of weeks, they sent me a check for everything less a $100 deductible.

Thanks so much for the info. Appreciate hearing from people on TTOL & their personal experiences with the insurance. We will definitely check out GeoBlue. We had used Allianz several years ago, not for medical insurance but travel insurance. We got royally screwed by them. Difficult to deal with. The insuremytrip sponsor on TTOL is wealth of info as well. Thanks so much.
