Reading the medical insurance claim thread and one’s need for an ambulance begs the question(s).
1) What number do you call on the French side for an ambulance?
2) What number do you call on the Dutch side for an ambulance?
3) Where again are the main hospitals on both sides of the island?
4) Which one is best?
Should we just drive the rental car rather than wait for an ambulance?

Google maps will show you the locations on both sides. I've had friends (medical students on island) tell me that in case of an emergency, drive, walk or crawl to the French side rather than the Dutch side. I was surprised at the level of care on the French side on the one occasion I really needed it - I even got a CAT-Scan for around €400 and have been told that this can cost on average over $3000 in the USA!
