Coming to villa rental in Orient Bay for two weeks in October. Been to SXM many times but rarely go to the Dutch side much. Are there chairs and umbrellas (or facilities) on Simpson Bay? Are there other Dutch side beaches that have the same?
We're concerned about sargassum impact on the eastern facing parts of the island and need to research some alternatives if needed.

Thanks...

On Simpson Bay Beach, D's, Karakter, and Mary's Boon, all have chairs. Some are free if you eat there. Not sure about KimSha. Dany rents chairs at Cupecoy.

Grand Case beach is a good alternative to Orient; the water is usually calm, and no sargassum.

You have a few options on Simpson Bay. D's Beach Bar, K's, and Mary Boon all have chairs, umbrellas and facilities. My personal favorite is D's Beach Bar, chairs are free and $10 for an umbrella, and the food is good. They also have a plane observation deck. They also have plenty of free parking.

Along with others mentioned there are also areas along Kimsha beach like Buccaneer Beach Bar. Also on Maho Beach there are 2 beach bars that have chairs and umbrellas.

wife and I are heading down in October also. I sometimes just buy some chairs to keep in the car for when we explore the island.

sunlover--to me, it's kind of risky leaving chairs in the car. I would be worried they would get stolen. I would rent chairs from Craig. Although I don't know what would happen if they would get stolen, how he handles that.

Tandorii--You should also check out Mullett. Normally no sargassum there.

Not today. Just saw a video on Facebook of all the seaweed covering the length of Mullet.

Today's sargassum on Mullet is a relic of the passing hurricane. It's unusual.

I know. Hopefully they'll get it cleaned up quickly but it was a massive amount on the beach.

Does Danny rent umbrellas as well? It looks like not much beach there (from Google maps)? Can/does one schlepp them down to the beach?

If you're referring to Dany, one n, at Cupecoy, yes, he rents chairs and umbrellas. He also grills ribs and chicken daily, and sometimes lobster if you order in advance. There are three different sections of beach there, and like many island beaches, the sand comes and goes.
