Although La Villa has recently gone through some front of the house changes, service remains attentive and extremely friendly.
Last year or so Florence sold her share of the restaurant to the other partner's (Christophe) brother Axel
A long time restaunter going back to L'Escapade which has been gone for many years. His personality fits right in with the rest of the staff. Most noticeable missing are everyone's favorite john Carlos (JC) and Cedric who has moved back to France. You can still find his twin brother working at La Cottage.
The long time prix fix of 47 euros is up to 59 euros but still very fairly priced.
It is enjoyable to dine at La Villa and watch people stroll the street.
An chilled sweet potatoe soup started the evening.
My wife's first course was homemade mushroom raviolis which she enjoyed. I choose a continuing special of lobster Thermador served between puff pasty. A lobster bisque surrounds the puff pastry almost like two appetizers in one. I get this dish every time.
Not wanting fish, chicken or pork my selections were narrowed down. I usually never order a filet but that was my choice cooked a perfect medium-rare with a foie gras sauce. During a food check i was offered more sauce but I had just enough.
Wanting to stay away from anything too creamy, my wife ordered the shrimp and scallop duo with silky mashed potatoes. Nice flavored butter both seafood were on the smaller side.
Both entrees were served on extremely hot plates which aren't to my liking.
While being an open air restaurant, the two air conditioning units were set to a low temperature and even with the assistance of many fans, the dinning room does get a bit warm for us.
Christophe always offer to move us to a table in the rear under a ac unit but we persisted.
For dessert my wife choose a pistachio creme burlee with a side of rich chocolate sauce. Sort of a Dubai chocolate combination. Really pretty good.
I continued with my long time favorite profiteroles. I asked our serve if they were good and he said they were John Carlos's favorite. I told him jc did not call them good, they were bombastic. If you know just, you know this phase.
Hopefully catching up with jc on Saturday to touch base with him and find out his plans since departing from La Villa. We go way back to when we would offer him a ride home after work because he wasn't old enough to drive.
The customary rum shots were offered, refilled and then bottle left on table.
We continue to patronize La Villa for good food but mostly for the hospitality
Two prix fix and 2 mojito and 2 glasses of wine 172 euros .
Although they now longer advertise 1 for 1, Axel did even when paying by credit card
Wow, that looks amazing! I would order exactly the same trio that you did. These days I find I have trouble finishing three courses, but for that meal, I would soldier on!!
We haven't been to LaVilla in quite a while, but need to get back there.
