Another lazy day by the pool with quick sneak out for gas fill up and our only stop at bacchus express in hope estate.
Total gas cost for first 9 days was about $30 which included a trip back to simpson bay as well as a trip back to cupecoy from orient.
Glad we limited our visits to bacchus express since everything looks good from sandwiches, breads, morning pastries and of course a display of awesome looking desserts.
We munched on a chocolate twist in the car on the way back and took home a chocolate layer dessert as well as a pistachio flan
As expected, all were delicious.
Monday night is our 9th night staying in Orient and have not eaten in the village once. Previously reported that many more restaurants are closed this year than previous years
We had simple plans to either eat at Sao or a new place called Roasty's and finish the meal off with Gelato from Roasty's.
Both were closed leaving only Maison mere open where we had a very lovely meal in the past, but just wanted something a bit simpler and lighter
Okay we walk across the street to yellow sub.
We seat ourselves which seems common in casual French restaurants After about 10 minutes I grab menus from the bar There is only one server for about 10 tables.
She is very friendly but with no sense of urgency. Once we order I seem other guests come in and wait with one couple finally leaving before even a hello
We noticed a sign hanging advertising large rum punches and couldn't resist although we got the smallest one at one liter . Also avaliable in 1.5 and 2 liters.
The drink was very good, appropriately strong and for 20 euros We had to struggle to finish, glad only a five minutes walk through the back of the village just past Almananda (spelling)
We shared a order of mussels gratinee which were tasty albeit a bit overcooked
My wife's liked her tuna tar tar but not nearly as much previous one at Rendezvous in cupecoy. My perfectly cooked well done burger would have been better if cooked medium as requested.
It was a struggle to watch other tables just waiting for everything.
A new customer comes in and the gentleman inquires where the men's room is, only to be told there wasn't any.
Next my wife asks and is told to go a few doors down but was refused entering thier restroom Finally standing outside yellow subs locked bathroom a kitchen lady told het to go to the beach where we had saw another male customer go to relieve himself. After a few drinks my wife was fuming about this incident ranting to post everywhere about her experience. I do understand her frustration She Facebooked the restaurant once back home and recieved a response back apologizing and explained that the bathrooms were broken earlier in the day by a customer and they were unable to get them fixed.
She did offer for us to revisit for a complimentary meal. A kind offer which we will.not accept but did mention that better communication could have helped all guests involved by informing them of the situation before dinning
Needless to say many of the bad reviews of slow service or even no service, I would agree to
For average food, not worth the wait
Yellow sub one and never again
Won't go back to sale e pepe , but would say food and atmosphere are very good
Usually we hit yellow sub at least once but after years of nothing special we skipped it. We always seem to attract flies only at yellow sub, not everywhere else.
Shame, perfect location and the desire for the food type is there.
I just don't get it!!!! It's a great location, perfect for a "HH" and a bite or two after the beach. Yet, it's still there with below average service and below standard food!! No bathroom??? We use to love Bikini restaurant after the beach for "HH" and something to pick on. It was someplace of a regular for us!! This could have been that!!!
That's a shame about the service. We haven't been there for quite a few years, but I think back in the day, Bruno owned it. Of course, service was top notch then. It is really odd that everything else was closed.
To make matters worse, they had discontinued any live music the whole month of July. We encountered a number of patrons from previous years or visits that we very disappointed in that. It's as if someone is intentionally trying to run it into the ground. You just can 't have service that bad and be that indifferent unless you were doing it on purpose.
I just got back 2 weeks ago, I spent 2 weeks in the village. Yellow sub (and the village) were pretty slow, most nights. At yellow sub I don't recall more than 3 or 4 tables at a time seated for dinner, even on the weekends. We had dinner there several times and service could be slow as there was normally 1 waitress. That wasn't really surprising nor were we in a hurry. Food was very good, and reasonably priced, the pistachio crème Brule excellent. Over a few days I talked at some length with the staff. There is no live band in July and August since they don't have the customers to support the expense. Most of the other restaurants were open, saw some traffic on Thursday - Sat when the vendors are selling stuff in the square. Seems curious to me to be critical of the business decisions about staffing and the band. It there were customers to support the expense (and make a return on it) they would have been there. I suppose I could make an argument that if they spent the money the people would come, but i expect the business owners may know more than me about running their businesses.
