We have all the arrangements for our January 2027 trip arranged. Land based on VG for a week (Sea Fans Villa) with my parents, our college aged son and a friends. Starting with a few days in San Juan and finishing at Guana Island (just hubby and I).

We are planning a day trip to Anegada. My mom is not a shell seafood person, she does like fish. The rest of us will happily stuff ourselves with conch and lobster.

Suggests for an Anegada lunch spot? We have eaten at Cow Wreck and all I remember were the flies…. I can’t tell if Wonky Dog is open for lunch from their website.

I also am looking for suggestions on the best way to visit the conch mounds and snorkeling.

I don't think Wonky Dog is open for lunch. Somebody on here lives there (Duckfat?), so this is who needs to reply. We have never eaten lunch on Anegada, but I've heard good things about Sids and Anegade Beach Club.

Ann at Tipsy's has a great menu. Her burgers are incredible. Wonky Dog does not do lunch. ABC is really good. The roti at Flash of Beauty (Monica) is awesome.

Just had a wonderful dinner at Sid's. Believe they are open for lunch.

We usually catch a free shuttle to ABC our first day and enjoy a nice lunch, beach and a dip in the pool.

The best way to visit the conch mounds and snorkel Horseshoe Reef is to take a half day trip with Sherwin (284) 440-3243. I also suggest Tipsy and Sid’s.

Best lunch is at ABC. Grab the free shuttle from the Lobster Trap. BLLT is great. The coconut crusted French toast is also great. After lunch you can walk down the beach to Tipsy. It is a fairly long walk, but it is beautiful and completely deserted between the two. Take a bottle of water or two Caribs.

If you want genuine West Indian food, go to Flash of Beauty at Loblolly Bay. It also has by far the best snorkeling on Anegada.

Duckfat (love the name BTW) - is the snorkelling at Flash of Beauty from the beach? My 73 yo mother is an avid snorkeler.

To snokle check the weather, bring noodles for sight ,walk down the beach from FOB going east (to the right about 200 yards). Swim straight out, drift snorkel back to the West and swim back in. Next to going out on Horseshoe reef with Sherwin or Kelly it is the best snorkeling in all of BVI IMHO

Concur with Bailau on both his points...snorkeling can be difficult with trades blowing 15+...you end up with a lot of surge through the reef.

100%, Bailau and Matt! I think most novice or timid snorkelers will find it overwhelming, but it is a fantastic snorkel. You really have to pay attention as the reef gets very shallow in spots.

The best place to snorkel at Flash of Beauty for people that are not strong swimmers is almost right in front of the restaurant. Go out slightly to the right (east) of the easternmost covered seat. From up high on the beach, you can see a visible opening in the reef that comes all the way in. You can snorkel that opening and see quite a bit without having to get very far out. The cut is deep. If you don't go far out, there is normally very little surge there. There are a couple of large rock formations that are teeming with fish, especially beneath them. As you proceed out there, you will begin to feel come surge, so don't go too far. If you are a strong swimmer and have good fins, you can go out quite a bit farther and see many giant heads of coral in about 20 to 40 feet of water. I almost always see larger snapper, grouper, lobster, and a shark or two out in the deeper water.

If you go out farther, make sure that you don't drift too far to the west by taking a sighting from the surface back towards the beach and finding two recognizable objects that in line with each other (a "range" sighting). Then, as you continue, periodically look back and check to see that you have not gone down-current of that original range sighting.

You come back in exactly the way you went out.

thank you duckfat for the detailed description. I will show it to my mom and let her make the decision if she wants to try it. She has snorkelled all over the Caribbean and Mexico but generally doesn't look for "adventure"

Flash of Beauty is a great spot. Excellent location, food, service, very nice people. Depending on time of year of course, I'd recommend getting there a little bit early as it's a really nice spot if/when you beat the lunch rush. I think they open at 10, grab a beer and maybe a small bite, walk around a bit, hit the water for a bit and work up your appetite, have someone go place your lunch order 10-15 minutes before everyone gets out of the water and enjoy a nice lunch as you watch others start to trickle in. They have excellent frozen drinks there as well, highly recommend.

We've also really always loved Cow Wreck, but we've been less frequent visitors to the BVI of late, with a trip in 2024, but then before that our last trips were in December of 2015 (this was the trip I threw out my back in North Sound, had to spend a couple days at Leverick while the rest of the crew visited Anegada and then spent the rest of the trip and the flight home loaded with painkillers (not the good, Soggy Dollar kind) before going in for back surgery and 6 months of rehab back home), November 2014, and New Year's 2013/2014. Obviously, a lot has happened in the BVI between 2015 and now.

Anegada Beach Club is also an excellent spot with a luxury feel, nice views and breeze, the pool is nice and the food is excellent.
