I can call a local Taxi I assume with my regular cell phone if I am in a wi-fi area like our
rental cottage. But when I need a return from say Savannah Bay will I have to have a
special plan from my Verizon or Lively to call a local cab, or can I receive a free call from
the taxi driver??? Thanks

Just do your carriers International Roaming plan. With ATT mine is $10/day.

For a long time I was on a legacy plan from Verizon -- one that you can't get back once you give it up. I recently switched to their Unlimited Welcome plan.

I was not entirely happy about this, but it's what I needed to do. Anyway it does have an advantage that I intend to make use of the next time I travel outside the US. I believe I'll be able to switch, for just one month, from Unlimited Welcome to Unlimited Ultimate. The latter plan includes unlimited data, talk, and text while traveling internationally. And one can freely switch between plans, so it shouldn't be a problem to switch back to Unlimited Welcome after my trip.

If you don't want to do this, you can add Travel Pass to your Verizon plan, which costs $12 a day (only on days you use the mobile network during your trip).

Or just get an eSim. I discovered this one while in Morocco... https://www.bcengi.com/ The great thing about it is you just add credit, which never expires, and pay for your usage. BVI is one of the highest costs per Gb but, unless you plan on watching videos while sitting on the beach, 1Gb goes along way. Use Digicel or Cable & Wireless in the BVI. So far I've used this in Morocco, Spain and France and still have $7 of my original $10 left. It shows you how much you've used (about 1 hour delay), where and when. Oh, and finally, it is not limited by geographic region. Says it works in 200 countries which might be a slight exaggeration as I think there are only about 195 in the world.

Verizon Unlimited Ultimate is the plan my wife and I are on. No need to worry about anything when travelling. Unlimited talk and text to home and within the country where you're travelling. Unlimited high speed data up to 15GB per month (while travelling), after that it's still unlimited, but you're not getting the highest speed anymore.

As DanS mentioned, if you are on Verizon, just upgrade to this plan for the month when you travel and you won't need to worry about a thing. I can't speak to other carriers.

One comment on Verizon Unlimited Plan: we use it and it works well but make sure wifi calling is turned off while in the BVI. We left it on, and interestingly, wifi calling is not covered under the Verizon Unlimited plan so we were charged for the calls that were unknowingly routed via wifi calling.

Use WiFi calling for calls outside the BVI and the calls cost nothing. However, using Wifi calling to make a local BVI call routes the call through the US back to the BVI and you are charged the standard rate for a call from the US to the BVI.

Thanks for mentioning this. Is it new? I don’t recall having any issues on our 2024 trip, but then again, I’m not sure we called anyone other than home while within shot of WiFi.
