Nice flight from Austin/DFW/SJU/Beef. Did a sleepaboard in Nanny Cay on our boat with Horizon. We had a 45' Cat "Copasetic" that was a Moorings boat because someone ran our 38' Cat aground the week before. We saw the original boat btw and it was a mess, estimated $70k in damage! They arrested the people who chartered the boat because of suspicious circumstances (last minute charter that paid cash, didn't report the wreck for well over 24 hours, ran aground on the South side of VG where it was restricted, etc) and it appears they were running either drugs or people from St Martin! Nanny Cay was pretty muggy but ok. We met up with Tony, Amy, and crew from TTOL and had a beer as they were on Brown Eyed Girl two boats down. Bobby's delivered our provisions on time and with no real issues. Horizon wanted us to keep our skipper for 5 days instead of the 2 we had discussed because they were skittish after the other boat incident which worked out ok because the boat was ridiculously large for 2 people, especially 2 sailors with our level of experience. The boat itself was big and beautiful but it had a lot of little issues. The boat was a Moorings boat and had problems from the refrigerator to one of the pulleys on top of the mainsail that broke on day 5 causing us to lose a few hours until the chase boat could fix it. Horizon did a great job though of trying to make sure we were taken care of and fixing the issues as best as possible, they even gave my wife and I a very nice bottle of champagne just before we left!
We spent our first night at Norman in Soldier's Bay. Nice anchorage and a change of pace from The Bight.
Second day we got ambitious and thought we would go to St John for the day. Big mistake. In between two trips to West End and going to Cruz Bay we barely had any time to enjoy the island. The sail was nice at least. We may go back to St John again but we will plan for at least 2 days next time. Came back to The Bight that evening but by that time we were too tired to get much enjoyment out of the Willie T. Ran into the BEG crew again and had a drink but we were just a little too pooped.
Next day we sailed over to Trellis and had a really good time at their Full Moon Party that night. Very eclectic atmosphere and friendly. Enjoyed the jamba dancers and the fireballs.
Tuesday we headed over to Savannah Bay after a quick stop in Spanish Town and had a great afternoon of floating on our mats and relaxing. Then my wife and I went out for a great dinner at Georgio's Table (best meal I have ever had in the BVI!) Really like Savannah and would highly reccomend it, just be careful of the reef going in, it is a little tricky!
Wednesday we headed up to Leverick for lunch and then across to Eustasia Sound. Best anchorage of the week! We had two private beaches and great snorkeling! After a very relaxed afternoon we grilled some steaks and saw a beautiful sky, topped off with our first ever sighting of the Southern Cross while our skipper played the CSN song on his eukalele!
Thursday morning we got up early and dropped our skipper at Trellis and then headed over for a great sail over to Diamond Cay. Foxy's Taboo was great, the food there was the best casual meal we had on the trip! Really liked it there.
Friday we hung out in White Bay at Soggy Dollar and Seddy's. Met up with another TTOL'er (whose name escapes me as I write this, sorry!) and had a relaxed afternoon. We cruised over to Little Harbour and had a great lobster dinner at Sidney's on our 10th Anniversary! The only bummer was my wife twisted her ankle getting off the dinghy and still is pretty sore.
Saturday we had a nice lunch back at Foxy's Taboo and then had a marvelous sail back to Nanny Cay. Horizon let us turn in the boat late since we had had so many little problems and it made for a great last day.
Stayed that night at Tamarind Club and would highly reccomend it to anyone looking for a last night stayover. They gave us a huge welcome drink and we enjoyed the AC and the swim up bar and nice restuarant. It was only about 10 minutes from the airport as well so it made for a less stressful morning as we had to get there for an early flight.
Now it's back to reality and planning for the next trip!
