Arrived in Chicago last night & by the time we dropped off our gandkids & their parents, drove 2 1/2 hrs west was 3am so will make this brief but will check back tonight to see if anyone needs immediate help.......1st ignore weather reports, our forecast was for clouds & rain , every day was perfect!! Some spotty rain but it passed, beautiful clouds, some dark & threatening looking but passed us by. Rented car on Stt from Hertz but couldn' t take it off island so got car on STJ from Conrad Sutton rental, cheaper for 4 adults & 2 kids than taxi & loved beach hopping, went to Island Blues in Coral Bay for a very good and laid back lunch right on the water & next time will check out Skinny Legs, didn't see Kenney Chesney but found out weher he lived! For one night on STT I definately would stay at the Best Western Emerald Beach!!!!! More about hotels later. Also call car rental on StJ to reserve a car we did this the day before. Our ID"s on ferry were checked going both ways, didn't have documents with us for the kids and wasn't a problem and the only place the kids paperwork was checked was in leaving STT to come home. TALK to people everywhere you go especially the locals, amazing stories about their history on the islands and how expats ended up there! Example "Captain Ron" on beach at Bolongo is a teacher at a private school there! Told me to buy the book "Glass Bottom Days" written by Willie Wilson, a fellow teacher and friend of his, I got it at the book store at Havensight, they were out of his childrens book. Just a few pages in but very well written! We had so much fun, slow down, don't be impatient, tip well, no problem driving on the left, this was our 3rd trip, the 1st in summer, little more hot & humid but wonderful trade winds, we're going back in Feb, NO GRANDKIDS!!!! Love them dearly but will take them back alone when a little older... Will report more later.
