My wife, daughter (l6) and I decided for the long weekend of Labor Day we should try the Atlantis Resort in comparison to the Grand Floridian at Disney World where we have gone is past years. So off we go from Phila with carry on luggage and we are in Nassau by l2:30 and get a Taxi to Atlantis Resort, one of the staff took us to a reception room on the l9th floor (our room was on the l8th floor) of the Royal Tower to register in and at this location there is a small buffet and free drinks provided while you wait for your room, in our case we had to wait until 2:30, anyway when our room was ready another member of the staff took us down to the room and expained in detail everything we should know. Soon thereafter we were off to one of the many pools of which were still crowded with people and there are many lounges, etc., to be found (even tho the so called placing of a towell represents my lounge and we haven't been there since l0:00 this morning). Pool service by waiter can be found with ease, or just go to one of many bar/snack areas located nearby, by the way all drinks and/or restaurants by waiters include an automatic l5% Tip to the bill, We found out the hard way by the 2nd day by tipping another 20% on top of the bill. Also I might add that at the final day I took out the manual that is located in the room and read that the maid service gratuities are built in the price of the room, of where I was never able to find that listing, I sure hope that all of these people receive this money. The Grounds/Pools/Beach and Restaurants are beautiful and well maintained. The Staff/Taxi Drivers and Shop Clerks whether in the Hotel or Bay Street were outstanding. The Casino of which I like to play Craps was OK, I was dissapointed because on every brochure I looked at I assumed fish of all varieties would be swimming by like in a lot of the restaurants, anyway just like in every other Casino, the same stuff, this time, not like in SXM, we lost all three nights. Bottom line Nassau is OK, not like our favorite SXM or Aruba for Carribean Travels, so as compared to Disney World, for us and we are not into drinking heavy or night life, Disney World would have been better and a whole lot cheaper. I forgot to mention the food is better than OK but it is very, very overpriced, in comparison to say a Ritz Carlton or another hotel of that class. Also for children (and there were a lot of them) during the day they could play in the pools and steep slides, but at night time I don't know if there is anything for them to do, we are used to taking a Royal Carribean Cruise and that line along with others provide so much more to do. ty ron m
