We've never taken the ferry from S. Thomas to Tortola before and I thought I read somewhere about tipping the baggage handler. What's the process of boarding? Do you keep your bags with you or are you required to "check" them? Is it customary to tip the baggage handler? If so at boarding or departing? Thank you! Julie

You check your bags at the counter when you buy your tix..they will allow a carryon so make sure that contains your important stuff. We tip the guy who takes them out to the dock $1 a bag..keep your eye on them as they load the ferry to make sure yours get on..and on the right boat! We also watch for off loading to make sure ours dont go on to RT..
