This will be my 3rd trip to BVI the first two were in March around Easter. We are going on May 20th this trip. What can I expect in the line of wind and crowds?. I'll be in a power cat so for me the less wind the better. Nothing against you wind sailors I just don't know how to sail. On my previous two trips it looked like we saw more sailboats under power than under sail. Also my last trip it seemed pretty crowded at the anchorages I hope it was because of the Easter holidays with school being out. We chose that time of year because the couple going with us were school teachers.

We went last May and are coming back this May. We're sailors and were pretty happy with the winds, not too light, not too heavy. Usually between 15 and 20kts. The crowds didn't seem too bad to us. I think I remember Anegada filling up, but not until mid afternoon.

Thanks Matt we'll have two kids with us this trip one 10 the other 8. If the 15 to 20 stands it should be enjoyable. Our last trip we had two days with the winds above 30 it made for a little rough ride but the cats take the water pretty good

May is our favorite time of year. Fewer crowds, less wind and lower prices. It might just be luck but it seems like it's cool enough to sleep at night with the hatches open and we tend to have few hatch closing drills due to evening showers. I know we're not the only ones here that like May.

Big fan of Late-May early-June here as well. Softer winds, slower vibe, better attitudes.

We are chartering 5/25 - 6/1. Can we expect the crowds to be lower? I've read some posts recently about balls at Cooper filling up my 1:00pm. We intentionally book off season to lower the stress factor of racing for balls. Can't wait to get there but we would appreciate it if someone with knowledge cold tell us what kind of crowds to expect (or hopefully lack thereof)!

We always go in late May/ early June (5/30-6/9 this year). No rushing to get a ball, good south easterly winds and no swells. We did learn in 2013 that "Christmas in July" crowds get a tad bit rowdy (vandalism at Leverick) and loud. We're anticipating bigger crowds this year, considering the trouble we had securing a charter in February.

We like that time of year, add in that the water is warming up. The wind still blows and the nights are cool enough to sleep well.

Cheers, RickG

Been going in May for a few years now and definelty the crowds, winds and swells are less.

... we have found that there may a few more showery days in. May/ June ie. More hatch dancing but really enjoy that time of year also....best part- volunteering for the Leverick Bay. Poker run.

have been down most months except July- Sept ( boat is out for hurricane season) and have to say they all have their pros and cons.

Went one year first week of June and it was really busy so every year is different I guess.

Really enjoyed our trip in October this past fall for cat fight...the water was bathtub warm ....

OK I'm not really that objective here , as I obviously want to move there and spend every month of the year. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

I want to share this again.

Have not seen it referenced for awhile. might be fun for your kids at their ages.

I am so envious of all of you sharing this paradise with your young children We only found it 5 short years ago and would have loved to sail and explore with our children when they were that age.

Have fun and .....don't blink! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

We were down last year (June 7-15) with 7 adults and 4 grandkids (6-12) on a Moorings 4800. Great weather, no problem getting balls or into restaurants. Other than the 4-5 great snorkeling sessions, the grandkids' favorite activity was the jumbies buffet on Friday night at Leverick Bay. The footage created when one of the jumbies "stole" the GoPro pole is priceless.

Back this year (May 29-June 8) with our usual crew (four other oldsters).

Here is a link to another "Pirate's Manual" (pdf and Word versions) for your kids. Have fun!
