We have decided to go to Phoenix where we have never been. A friend has a 3 bd condo in Scottsdale that he is letting us use but unfortunately its textile but does have 2 pools and sounds very nice. The price is right so can't refuse the offer. I have been researching the nudist options of Shangri La Ranch, a place near Tucson and also some trails that might be conducive to naked hiking. Any other suggestions are welcome. We will have a car to get around so a drive wouldn't be a problem and we might decide to stay for a few days if we find a place we like by some water. We plant to do a day trip to the Grand Canyon. Anyone else going in April? We'll be there from April 10 to May 2.

Shangri La is very rustic, and full of smokers.
Mira Vista in Marana, about 2 hours south of Phoenix is very nice.

We were at Shangri La about 5 years ago. Had planned on staying there 3 nights. Got there early afternoon, checked in, but our assigned room was not ready. We parked our bags in the assigned room, disrobed and went for a swim in the pool. Came back to the room, and found it infested with common house flies. With no onsite restaurant, we drove to the nearest restaurant about 45 min away. Had a nice dinner, and came back to our room. The flies must have multiplied while we were dining. The next morning, the flies were still there. We decided to cut short our stay and left as soon as we could. Never again. If there is a next time, we will try Mira Vista.

I have visited both Shangri-La and Mira Vista and would highly recommend Mira Vista. Jillian gives a great massage. Another option might be El Dorado Hot Springs about 45 miles west of Phoenix on I-10 in the small community of Tonopah. They have private areas with soaking pools and a communal nude-only area with several tubs, all fed with natural hot spring water. I would suggest the Sunset private area in the late afternoon and evening as it does have a great view of the sunset.

Thanks for the info. I think Shangri La is less affluent ( more rustic ) than Mira Vista and the price reflects that as Mira Vista is more like nudist hotel rates which are always over priced when compare to their textile comapables but thats the way it is. I'll check it out and let you know what I find. I know my wife would not appreciate the winged friends and neither would I. We stayed at a place once that had that problem and it comes from non use and the owners not cleaning the place when it stays shut in for long periods. We also had that problem with our own home until we replace the siding and cleaned out a fly ifestation under the siding where the flies had found a way into the house. The springs you mentioned sound nice so will need to check that out.

If you are spending time in Northern AZ, consider a boat rental on Lake Powell. You should easily be able to find a lonely cove for some skinny dipping. Not sure about the temperatures there in April. Make sure it will be warm enough to swim there.

I live in the Phoenix area and have a suggestion for combining a hike in a remote area with a visit to El Dorado Hot Springs in Tonopah. I could send the details via e-mail. Let me know if interested.

Sorry, why would you need to do that by email? It sounds like it might be of general interest.

OK, my arm is hurting so here goes: I have visited El Dorado several times and enjoyed the view of Saddle Mountain to the southwest while soaking in hot spring water. I had heard that there was a trail to the top but never did the research to learn more. I found a trip report of sorts that was posted on the internet by some folks formerly associated with El Dorado. Here is the Web address: http://www.thecatdragdinn.org/smh/saddlemtnhike.htmlMore information can be found on the HikeArizona Web site: http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=191To sum up the trail is about 3 miles in length (r/t) and takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to hike. It has about 1,600 ft. in vertical elevation gain so it is moderately difficult. Most trip reports indicate that you would have the mountain to yourself especially on a weekday. My suggestion would be to do the hike early in the day and spend the afternoon and evening relaxing and soaking at El Dorado in their hot spring waters: http://el-dorado.com/The best time to go would be late October-early November or April-early May. Otherwise, it would be too warm/hot during the day and too cool in the evening. If anyone is interested in giving it a try, I would volunteer to go along as the local guide.
