Does anyone know if my Sprint I-Phone 6 will work in the BVI? I recently changed from Verizon to save a few $. So far so good!

It will likely not (at least not without running up roaming charges that would make Obama blush). Search cell phones, wifi, internet on here, there have been a lot of threads discussing these topics.

Generally, your best bet is to get Lime or Digicel service while you are down. If your phone is unlocked and will work on their networks, you can just get a sim card. Otherwise you can buy a cheap phone or there are apparently rental options available as well. From what I've seen, it appears that buying costs about the same as renting and you have the device for your next trip.

We have T-Mobile which includes a WiFi calling feature, anywhere we find WiFi we have unlimited calling back to the US. Our charter includes a phone for use in the BVI if needed. We choose to disconnect from the web when coming down, with the occasional "check ins" on FB to rub it in a little to all our friends back home. We've found it to be the best way to leave the world behind and enjoy being in the moment. Our BVI time is limited (once every two years or so) and disconnecting for those 9 days is part of it. Just my $.02...

I think it means Obama has no regard for the taxpayer.
Makes sense to me <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

Whatever it means it is not relevant to this site. No political talk here please. We all go to the ilons to get away from such things, so no reason for such talk here.

Yes, you'd have to use international roaming. Here's a link that might help.

Life involves risks, take some prudent ones (NOT with the BVI ferries)!

If you are line of sight to St Thomas you can usually pick up a Sprint signal.

I have Sprint & my husband says they have an international plan you can get. I'm curious to know if anyone has tried Viber on Tortola, & if it works. I know you have to have WiFi & the person you're calling has to have it on their phone, too...

Yes - I have used Viber on both Tortola and Virgin Gorda and it works!

All of the wifi calling services work, as long as you are near a wifi signal that isn't too busy.

I also use whatsapp for messaging, and FaceTime audio for calls. I can get reliable service with both.

Have fun and turn off whenever you can!

Sprint can get you service you just have to tell them in advance.

I checked out the link it's $3.99 /min and .50 / text to the recipient. I don't think I need my phone that bad. I'll just use it for pictures

Sprint is in network in the USVI. That is a big difference from Verizon where the USVI is out of network. Disable roaming and you will be able to make in network calls from much of the western part of BVI. I can sometimes get it to work in the Bight. I can always get a signal from CGB over to Yost and down to West End. Even Cooper at times will work.

WOW are we really that sensitive??? It was pretty much tongue in cheek I think.
