Just back from stay at Coyaba 6/21-6/30. Let me just say that this place was the nicest resort that we have ever stayed at in the Caribbean. Probably the US as well. Back in Feb. when I was debating on the Coyaba or Grenada Grand, as there was a big difference in price, I had rec'd lots of feedback. After walking the grounds/property of the Grand on the way to the vendors market, I am so glad I did not stay there. It looks worn, in need of some major sprucing up. I cannot speak for the rooms, but I saw enough. Anyhow back to the Coyaba, as we arrived in our cab and passed the KFC I started to panic. Yes, there is a KFC across the street, but have no fear-once at the Coyaba, you forget all about it. The entire resort is absolutely wonderful. It is well decorated, with pleasing details, good furnishings. The grounds are beautiful and coming along nicely, almost all areas are grassy with the exception of some near the area towards the beach. The staff, out of this world-extremely friendly. We had a room on the 2nd floor of the bldg. closest to the beach which had a wonderful view of St. Georges and the grounds of the hotel. The room was spotless, with white tile floors, nice dark wood furnishings. There was a mini fridge, iron/board, hairdyer, electronic safe, tv w/ plenty of channels. Nice balcony with a table and two wicker padded chairs. Sheets changed daily and nice thick fluffy towels. Also pool and beach towels available as well. You are able to order room service if you'd like for an additional $10EC charge. In the lobby were phones to use, which I would recommend for local calls as they ran $1.00-1.44EC calling from room. Also, two computers for guests. Two very nice gift shops side by side, but with different items and decent hours. Pool area is a nice tiled area with wooden chaise lounges with these thick padded cushions that when wet dry super quick, almost seemed water repellent. A few thatched umbrellas around for shade or shelter from the rain. The swim up pool bar had about 8 stools in the water. Very attractive bar/pool/restaurant area. The color combination of everything really made this place stand out. White bldgs., dark wood, cream tile, russet chaise loungers. I would say they have invested a lot in this place. I have only seen pictures of the old Coyaba and this place other than the location of the bldgs. that the rooms are in looks nothing like the pictures I have seen. We did order room service three times, ate and drank at the Pool Bar. Did not sample food in the dining room for two reasons. First, after 7pm there is a dining room dress code-we did not pack trousers (never plan on wearing pants for dinner) and the menu was quite pricey. The pool bar menu reasonable. There is a little beach hut at the beach entrance where you can get your beach chairs taken out to the beach for you and get your beach towels. There is also a watersports activity center where you are allowed one hour per day of non-motorized water sports (hobie cat, ocean kayak). There is also a gym and a spa for massages/facials, which by the way are priced as you would find at home. The beach of course, as they say, is one of the Caribbean's best and it is. The only negative thing I can say about the Coyaba is that in the rooms the tv armoire has two small drawers for clothes storage other than that and the closet which if you are hanging all of your clothes there is not enough room for clothes storage for a lengthy stay. We were a family of three and I had my clothes stacked next to the cable box and his clothes stacked on the suitcases put away in the closet. Hey, if that is they only complaint you know you are doing something right. I did fill out the in-room survey and suggested that a small dresser be put in each room, there is plenty of space. I will be posting more about my stay under various topics. Please excuse any typos.
