Some suggestions/hints, etc.

Travelers checques - believe it or not Euroshopper wouldn't take them, but I still believe that they are handy to have. ATM's were available but before using them check on the surcharges, I'm sure very high. Plantation House would only take CASH, no credit cards.

Transportation

I just love those dollar vans. Never had a problem catching one, but I can't stand that rap music most of them play. I highly recommend Challenger Taxi Service (besides, they are my friends).

If you want to take a taxi tour, really Curtis is super. He has so many ties to the island. His brother is the only one whaling now, he and his family took part in building the Friendship Schooner. His family is mentioned throughout Pat Mitchell's book. His passion for the island just oozes out of him. He is articulate and extremely knowledgeable. His cousin is even the captain on the ferry.

Cell phones Again, as I mentioned previously, check with your cell phone company.

Provision It's tough coming in late Saturday night and most all marts are closed on Sunday so bring some snacks with you to get through to Monday if you are renting a villa, etc. But definitely head to Keegan's BBQ late night on Saturday, fills you up and cheap and good. I used to like the Euroshopper but now I go to the mart accross from the Vegatable Stand (I cannot remember it's name, but the building is blue). Good selections (more than Euroshopper and prices very reasonable). Speaking of the vegatable stand - STAY AWAY. These guys come from St. Vincent and sell their vegatables. They are pushy and EXPENSIVE and will most definitely rip you off if you are a first timer. Trust me.
