For the first time we flew into St. Thomas from Baltimore. Thanks be to TTOL for turning us on to Kevin, who whipped us through to catch a 2:30 ferry to West End. From there we headed to Frenchmans - just a lovely hotel. We travelled with my daughter and her fiancé; frenchmans two bedroom places are great for two couples. Folks there were terrific.
We spent three nights there, took care of some wedding business, spent a day at Smugglers and a day at Cane Garden Bay. It's been 8 years since we had been down. Both beaches were quiet. Cane Garden Bay had less folks there than at Smugglers! Ate a killer quesadilla at Myetts. Mostly ate at Frenchmans. For breakfast the chef there makes the best granola ever.
Saturday we caught the ferry to Virgin Gorda, and met the agent for our villa - and wedding venue. We stayed at Sol y Sombra. Unbelievably awesome place. Mort guests arrived, some staying at the villa, some at Sol y Sombra. We picked up food at Island Pot and had great dinner at Sol y Sombra.
Can't say enough about that place. Just amazing. Little Trunk beach and Valley Trunk beach. The pool. The kayaks and water toys. It was blissful, and we pretty much didn't want to leave. At at the Rock one evening. But mostly just hauled in food to eat there, or grazed in the fridge.
Thursday was my daughters wedding on little trunk beach with a glorious sunset. Chef Chet cooked wonderful dinner for seventeen of us. Perfect.
Spent all day the next day with Dive BVI, snorkeling and making stops at the Fat Virgin, Prickly Pear and Saba.
And Saturday we all sadly left Sol y Sombra, daughter and son in law for their Tortola honeymoon, most guests heading home, me and husband for a few days relaxing at Peter island. Haven't been here since 2002. It's nice, not as nice as back then. Staff lovely. Food pretty good. I'm reading books on the beach, eating and sleeping and enjoying this long vacation.
It's been a dream vacation and a dream wedding. I love the BVIs and I loved sharing this place with family and friends. The young folk just loved Virgin Gorda, jumping from rocks, kayaking bak and forth, snorkeling. It was a joy to see.
