Another great BVI trip. I believe this one was our best so far. This trip was me, my wife, and three of our friends for part of the time. They chartered a sailboat for a few days, while we stayed at Rhymers. We left of 5/24, spent the night in San Juan, hopped over to Anegada on 5/25, headed over to Tortola on 5/28 (CGB), did a few day trips to Jost, back to Old San Juan on 6/3, then home on 6/4.
Highlights (in no particular order)
-fishing on Anegada (snapper, cudas, bonefish, sharks, tarpon) Didn't actually land the tarpon.
-seeing all of the Anegada folks at Neptunes and Cow Wreck
-Cow Wreck
-playing in the water with the "Cow Wreck Kids"
-Neptunes...and dinner at Neptunes
-snorkelling (Loblolly, Flash, Brewers, White Bay)
-rescuing a large yellowtail snapper from an old net at the west end of White Bay
-seeing my first octopus (at Smuggler's of all places)
-Brewers Bay
-playing on the motor boat we rented from Glen in CGB
-fishing with our new friends from Dallas and watching them giggle as they reeled in grouper after grouper (none harmed/kept)
-seeing my buddy catch a large parrot fish and put it back in the water without reviving it (parrot fish need a little help after the fight), watching it struggle to get going again while a baracuda circled deciding when to strike, watching a frigate bird come down and grab the parrot fish only to drop it about 50 feet from where it picked it up, and finally..watching the parrot fish swim away unharmed. The drop was about 5 feet and gave the parrot enough momentum to get going again. It was a very cool series of events.
-all those big things I hooked into and never saw what it was
-meeting lots of new friends
-the roti at Gertrude's on White Bay (The best roti I have had so far...anywhere.)
-watching my wife pouring "tea" at Bomba's full moon party
Lowlights
-having to give up two bottles of DonQ rum at the Miami airport that we bought at duty-free at SJU. We were talked into leaving the secure area at the airport to get some good Cuban food. We forgot about having the rum with us and the new security regulations. We ended up giving it to our waitress at the restaurant. Great food, but not worth the rum.
-the condition of the coral at Smugglers Cove
-losing two tarpon
-my friend forgetting to come pick us up after fishing the flats at Anegada. It was "a bit hot" and we drank all of our water anticipating his arrival Luckily, we were able to hail a taxi after an hour or two and he bought dinner that night
