We are considering an American/US Airlines flight from St. Maarten through Charlotte to Dallas and on to Calgary. The connection time in Charlotte is 1 hour and 45 minutes. Is that enough time to clear US customs and security to get to the Dallas flight?

Depends entirely on the number of flights that come in at the same time. Immigration could take 15-90 mins.

Also depends if your flight leaves SXM late or if it has to go to San Juan for fuel! (Has happened to us). And don't forget that the plane begins boarding about a half hour before take off. On a good day 1hr 45min should be ok.

1:45 should be fine...my biggest anxiety producer is when we just wait and wait and wait for our bags....no checked bags would save at least half an hour sometimes more....

We've had 1:30-45 many times and a couple resulted in some fast footwork to get to the connection...but none missed

I have been a happy camper now though since JB came on the scene for our return

all depends on timing/delays. We made it in 15 minutes on a Friday at 6 pm a few weeks ago in Charlotte.

It really does depend on timing. We arrived once 30 min early and was let off the plane an hour later due to availability of a gate and customs being to busy. In general, you should have enough time.
