Day 2
After our oceanfront breakfast and coffee, we walked down the beach the next morning and saw a sign for car rentals. I called the number listed and KISS rental delivered a car within an hour, filled out the paper work, and we were on our way. They agreed to pick up the car 4 days later at the dock where we were meeting the Cuan Law for the dive portion of our trip and agreed to have it back there when we came in from the trip. We were to leave the car at the Beef Island Guest House the morning of our flight home. There price was a very reasonable $50 per day with no extra fees for all the pick ups and drop offs. One thing that harkens back to the Tortola for Dummies situation, DRIVE ON THE LEFT side of the road!!!!! The rental company, our hosts at Beef Island Guest House, nor anyone else told me that until the poor guy I met on the curve about had a heart attack as I met him head on. Fortunately, we were both driving slowly enough no contact was made! He very politely explained to me I was driving on the wrong side of the road.

I drove and hubby navigated our drive from Beef Island to Ft. Recovery. We knew a refrigerator and microwave plus coffee maker and blender were included in our room so we made a stop at a grocery store to pick up items for breakfast, rum and coke to mix drinks, and light snacks. What we didn't know is coffee is not included so we had to make a return trip to the store for coffee. Pamelah, the manager, had emailed me that we had been upgraded to the Penthouse free of charge so we were really excited to get there. After a very brief and organized check in process which included a cell phone with minutes included, we arrived at our beautiful a bedroom penthouse suite, number 13.

Ft. Recovery review
This lovely property is one of our top 5 of anyplace we've ever stayed on any vacation anywhere! Our penthouse was on the second floor and had a porch overlooking the ocean, which was not more than 20 feet away. It faced the west so the sunsets were amazing! The bed was very comfortable and the bedroom was air conditioned. Our porch was where we spent the majority of our time, talking, sipping rum, and finally getting into vacation mode. The atmosphere at Ft. Recovery is wonderful. A continental breakfast was included, but we ate in our room most mornings. Their restaurant takes orders throughout the day and has you put a time you want to eat dinner. You can eat dinner inside, outside, or take it to go. We didn't eat in the restaurant but heard from other guests the food was very good. They have a small and very cold pool where we spent a few afternoons. Becky, the property dog, was fun and playful, but when she got too persistent we told her to "go home" and she would leave. Overall, I would highly recommend this property for anyone wanting a quiet, romantic getaway.

Early afternoon, we drove down to Pussers at Soper's Hole to try a painkiller and conch fritters. Both were good, but not great. We split a chicken and pineapple quesadilla which was OK. We shopped at the market at Soper's Hole just a few steps from Pussers, which was fantastic. Very nice atmosphere here so we stayed and visited with several couples who were sharing a catamaran. Looked like a fun alternative to bare boating so we are now considering it for a future trip with friends.

Watching the sunset from our porch, sipping rum and smoking cigars is how we spent our first evening at Ft. Recovery. Definitely in vacation mode now and rearing to go for day 3. No roosters here!
