Hi!

I am coming to st Lucia for a day off the pier and wondering what's the easiest way to get around? Bus, taxi ,rent car? Coming into Castries but want to go to Soufriere (diamond falls, sulphur springs , ect...)

Thanks!

A taxi tour would be your best option.

Soufriere is a long way from Castries. The cruise ships have some sea and land excursions that would get you south more quickly. I do not get motion sickness easily, but the taxi ride across St Lucia can do it. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Sick.gif" alt="" />

I have rented a car several times. Because of the mountainous terrain ( zig zaging roads) driving is tedious and takes time. But sometimes it is the best option. There will be mirrors on the U pin turns in the mountains ti see on coming cars ( and dump trucks). If you can acquire a boat taxi to some of the places, that might be the best option ( less stress and quicker).
I have drove from the airport several times to Gros Islet. The middle of the drive is through the rain forest which can be a good drive or a bad drive, depending on the conditions.

And unless things has changed you will have to purchase a temporary driver license also.

No, renting a car is not the best idea for a cruise ship passenger. To get to Soufriere, it is an hour+ drive over very twisty, potholed roads. Take a boat excursion....

From a ship, definitely take a taxi tour or a boat excursion. Getting around in St. Lucia takes a LONG time and the roads are not the best.

We have an infant so not sure a boat excursion would be best and safe. Are there boat Taxis that are slow and safe for a baby? . .. and we really don't want to do a set excursion by the cruise ship.

Most of those excursions are on pretty big boats, if you're worried about some kind of a tippy fishing boat or something?? Regardless, if you prefer a land taxi, go for it..

I really don't know myself. Would suggest you google it. Are you sure that any exist?

I suggest you get off the ship and negotiate with one of the taxi/tour guides that are waiting on the pier. That is your best way and safest method to see the sights and tour the island. Enjoy your trip!
