After spending a week sailing on a 47ft catamaran in the BVI’s with 3 other couples having a grand time we felt it would be best to give our livers (ok mine) a little rest and the 2 of us would spend our 2nd week on the wonderful SXM enjoy the sun, the sand and the other "s" word…
We stayed at Caribbean Nature in Oyster Pond in the “studio” based in part from some of the feedback we received from this site. Well I’d have to say right of the top what a great little piece of paradise to enjoy some au natural time and to be a home base to enjoy the Island. The hosts were fantastic (French language a minor barrier but a lot of fun trying to communicate), beautiful private and well maintained grounds with a lovely pool, a nice appointed and clean room, a few mosquitoes but manageable with the net or fort as I like to call it, capturing my lady inside for some fun… We met 3 other couples from Canada, US & UK where we had a great time during happy hour after a tough day at the beach catching up on the days activities… I would recommend this location to any SXM traveler and we plan on going back there again ourselves.
I won’t dwell on the not so nice stuff, suffice to say that we were the 2nd couple going to Happy Bay on the Monday, you already heard about the robbery at gun point with the other couple that posted here. The other item was feeling uncomfortable at Bay Rouge with the local lads hovering about. Lesson learned, stay in the populated areas.
That brings us to Orient Beach and Club O specifically. We managed a nice nude walk along the length of the beach 3 mornings around 8am, a great way to start your day. We had breakfast at the famous Baywatch one morning and were entertained by Andy and team. We spent the better part of 4 days @ Club O and really enjoyed ourselves. I was amazed that my wife finally felt comfortable at a nude resort with all sorts of other nudists around. Bravo! After the beach it was back to Caribbean Nature for more relaxation and happy hour fun.
Other worthwhile mentions; of course purchasing bling in Philipsburg, glitter for her, more points for me (I need them)… We met up with close friends one of which was celebrating her 50th birthday. We had a nice dinner, then off to casino to deposit some money, Soprano’s bar for a drink or 2 to drown our sorrows, SSBB to catch any action. Nothing there so off to Bliss. It turned to be ladies night with Chippendale guys on the dance floor to please the ladies. Well let me tell you it’s the 1st time I started to feel old… there were a number of 20 something ladies shaking everything they had with these guys. Wow we never danced like that in our 20’s what did I do wrong… It was very entertaining for us 50 set but we quickly realized that it was time to move on and get back to our reality. We also managed to get in a good afternoon sailing the Americas Cup boats.
All in all it was another good trip to this magical Island (our 3rd). Next time we plan on coming back to do the Heineken Regatta.
