According to sxm daily St. Maarten is said to have one of the oddest national boarders in the world.

I find the boarder between the French and Dutchside to be more interesting than odd.

I guess its due to SXM's small size.

What do you all think?

Interesting that Captain Oliver's Resort (Oyster Pond) rests on the French side and the restaurant, Dinghy Dock Bar and other marine offices rest on the Dutch side - a small "International Bridge" leading from the hotel to the restaurant is the marker. Odd or interesting?

Does that taxi driver happen to work at Hollywood Casino? She sounds and looks very familiar.

A 'boarder' rides a surfboard or snowboard or rents accommodation from a landlord. A 'border' separates two countries. In SXM don't blink as you cross it or you'll miss it.

I agree with Bobcat about Captain Oliver's.

The resort was founded by a frenchman, Oivier Lange.

I suspect him from having chosen the spot because nobody knew, or cared where the border ran.

Until today, there is still a dispute.

One thing is accepted by all, on the french side, the land is in France. The Marina is built on water and claims to be on the Dutch side, even though the border runs down the middle of the bay.

To add a little spice, when Lange died, he had no kids only a recently wed american wife. She produced a french will, which was disputed by Lange's cousins and nephews.

Followed court cases on both sides, meanwhile the hotel was left to one party and the restaurant and marina to another.

So when you stay at Capt. Oliver Hotel, they tell you not to eat at Capt. Oliver Restaurant. Of course, the hotel accepts Euros and the Restaurant Dollars.
