we had a code share with a VERY tight...less than one hour...transfer from EIS to SJU.

Our Cape Air printed tickets did not have TSA-Pre check mark. the line to go through airport security was REALLY LONG at SJU.

I pulled a rabbit out of my hat and went to have our United tickets reprinted at SJU with the TSA-Pre checkmark. 4 people in line in front of us...jumped in front of the numb-n** that was holding up the line, and was able to make our 45 minute connection.

Thanks for the tip! We'll add that to the checklist for our upcoming trip in May...

That pre TSA check thing is odd...our tickets yesterday said yes but BOS/Logan said "we don't have it today"
Actually we had it all last year without applying for it (a trial?) then it was gone in Jan. So we will be applying for both that and Global Entry to make life easier.

As I understand it, Pre Check is included with Global Entry ... no need to pay for both!

$100.00 for Global Entry & it does get domestic precheck. Well worth it.

Not to be pedantic but the Global Entry status *should* get you TSA Pre and usually does but, for various reasons, it doesn't always seem to work (see the thread over on the SXM sub).

Getting Global Entry gets you a KTN (Known Traveler Number). You enter this number in your passenger profile when you book your flight/check in online. Having that number *should* get you TSA Pre check but you need to make sure you enter it (and if you have a code share trip where you are using multiple airlines, you need to make sure they all have it).

The relationship between Global Entry and TSA Pre seems either poorly implemented or more complicated than we know. It's very possible that they purposefully throw a bit of randomness in there to keep the bad guys guessing - who knows.

Tell ya what though, it's great when you get it.

Even with a known traveler number, you are never guaranteed pre-check. It is rare that I don't get it, but it does happen. I have also had the same experience where one boarding pass had it and the other one (same flight) did not.

And to close...If you were one of the early GE peeps, and you allow it to expire..like me, then your KT number expires...that raises eyebrows. then you have "extra questions" when you re-enroll in Pre.

Approval for Global Entry is for 5 years. Then you have to renew online. When I renewed earlier this year the web site said that I would need to go for another interview with Customs & Border Control but 3 days after I completed the online application process and paid the fee I got an email saying "Congratulations" you are approved for another 5 years and may use your status immediately. The program is definitely worth the $100. If you have an American Express Platinum Card and use it to pay the fee, they reimburse you for the $100 so its essentially free.

Pre-Check is never guaranteed as they randomly force people thought he full screening process. I find that it works roughly 80% of the time.

Yep, we got "randomly selected" they took out EVERYTHING!!! and searched EVERY pocket of EVERYTHING I bagged. @EIS on departure.

They saw my 6 pack of 18650 LION batteries and had me prove every one was depleted, They had me squirt out my 1.5 oz. "Dr. Carvers Shave Butter". They then ran my 1.25 foot long duffle bag through security X-Ray to make sure it was really empty. And then I was required to sign a form that said I was searched....randomly.

For chrissakes...I had 3 swim suits, 5 shirts, 2 pairs of shorts, and a pair of flip flops, and it took 20 minutes. Fk-er-ey at it's highest. (average for a two week trip)

They must have heard my criticism about the fanatic lady with the long "elegantly painted" nails.

And then I got to fly in seat 1b on the Cape Air flight...co-pilot. I used to fly Cessna 310c's so the 410-C they fly is not too different....BEST part of the whole trip!!!!
