We are thinking about letting our son bring one of his friends with us on one of our upcoming charters. Might be to the BVIs or it might be to a different island such as St. Martin, Antigua, Grenada, etc... or a combination of islands. Can anyone offer some insight into the challenges we could face concerning C&I with a non-family minor on board? Should a standard "minor consent to travel form" from the US that is signed by both parents and notarized be sufficient for any island in the Caribbean? Or do some islands have their own separate requirements? Would hate to get down and be turned away (or worse) because we don't have the correct forms. Suppose we could stick to the USVI/SVI but I really want to start checking out some of the more southern islands on our next trips.

For what it is worth son, D-I-L and 12yo granddaughter traveled to the Caribbean with GD's friend last summer. In addition to the friend's passport they carried a noterized letter signed by the friend's parent granting permission for the child to travel out of the country and giving them ability to act in the event of a medical emergency.

No one at the airline or at customs & immigration asked for or looked at the letter.

They went to St. Kitts, Nevis, Antigua and St. Barth's.

No big deal but you'd be wise to have the "letter" in your possession just in case.

Thanks Fletch. Those are the same islands that we are going to be visiting on our charter this June (with the addition of St. Martin). I doubt my son will be bringing a friend on this one, but you never know.

In any case, we would definitely bring the letter. When I said "not a very big deal" I just meant that it sounds like there aren't any other hoops to jump through, such as unique form requirements for each island.
