While a laptop is ideal, a phone will work in a pinch if you don't want to haul a laptop with you. Lots of people using phone without a holder or helper.
That's what I was trying to figure out. I would prefer not to bring a laptop, but I will have an iPad (with the Apple keyboard folio cover) and an iPhone. The iPad case will hold the iPad up at an angle, but doesn't give you much room for angle adjustment.
