Lreserve - sorry this happened to your friend, and I'm glad she ultimately wasn't charged. You can't fault the Club O staff for following policy though, and the policy is you are responsible for returning your towel, just like your room key and safe lock. Getting things stolen sucks, but that is the risk we take leaving items unattended on the beach, which I do every time I stay at club O.

To me, the perceived risk of having a towel stolen (low) multiplied by the cost of the towel (low) is less than the hassle it would take to secure them or take them with us on walks. Even though Club O provides security, they can't be expected to watch every chair at all times.

If the staff were rude to her, then she should let the GM know. But your original post said they were "firm", which is different than rude.
