Had a great lunch at Fat Tony's .

Split a Burger with fries and a Heineken Draft each.

GEBE power was out, so only items from the (gas) grill available.

Had a nice chat with the owner, and I'm about 99% certain his name was Rich, though he did introduce himself as Fat Tony.

Hmmmmm, electric out for both of your visits? I'm guessing that some things on Saint Maarten NEVER change - GEBE being one of them?! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

It's in the Cupecoy area on the road to the Summit Hotel. Turn off the main road at the spot where FIG used to be.

It's not fine dining for sure, but I thought it was decent, for what it was.

Rick runs Fat Tony's and it's a great place for good casual food at reasonable prices in a friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately, Rick is not running the Summit restaurant anymore as it got to be too much for him to try to be in two places at once. The Summit bar is open daily from 12noon-8pm and there is free coffee, cappuccino, espresso and tea in the office all day long. In addition to Fat Tony's there are about a dozen restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the Summit including Temptation, Basilico, Bar Code and many more. Since every room at the Summit has a kitchen, and guests often eat in, this seems to work for everyone.

Hi Bruce--If Rick isn't running the restaurant, is somebody else doing it. I have to say that when Rick was running it, the food was really good, but the service was not. We would love to hear that someone is there as it is close to where we live and we have been going there for at least 10 years--starting with Cloe & Thierry. It has always been good and I hope whoever takes over does a good job too.

Thanks for the kind words. As you know from having visited for so many years, the location is both wonderful and challenging. Wonderful because it is off the beaten path and the view it features over Simpson Bay Lagoon is one of the best views on the island. Challenging because it is off the beaten path and anyone running the restaurant will have to put serious effort into advertising and marketing to attract people from the area. I will be on the island next week and meeting with two parties who each have interest in running it going forward. One currently runs a restaurant on the island and the other has in the past. Hopefully I'll have some news to share soon.
